I have just purchased DVD-R discs (Sony) and I need a little bit of ''noob'' help. I am on a iMac by the way. When I put my blank media into my disc drive it makes the typical sounds (Do I have to mimic it?) and then it pops out. I've been trying to burn some of my movie collection onto these DVD's (such as .avi .wmv and .mp4 to name a few) and I am still stuck with this problem. Is my iMac simply not capable of burning DVDs or is it something else? Thanks for helping me it means a lot... Edit:..even if it sounds stupid.
It really depends, there are some DVD drives that only support DVD+Rs (although rare nowadays were popular at one time) so we should try and determine if it's one of those, or if it simply cannot write disks at all.
Perhaps someone more knowledgeable in the mac area can help.

I don't think it's even able to burn just read CDs/DVDs. Oh well. I'll have to get an external burner then. Thanks for your help!
Thanks for replying. I don't quite know should I use System Profiler to find out?
So...am I stuck? Do I get an external hard drive that hooks up via a USB cable or something else?
Edit: I found this in System Profiler. ''No disc burning device was found. If the device is external, make sure it’s connected and turned on.''
I'm screwed.

So will I need something like this? http://www.amazon.com/Rewriteable-Mini-Note-2133-KX870AT-2133-KX868AT-USB/dp/B003AVGN5M
