After some thinking I have decided to get myself a new laptop. The one I currently have (using it for travels and such) idles at approx 80oc, and goes past 100oc when playing flash games (crashes on minecraft at around 105oc), so it's dying very soon. I have found 2 specific models, both are pretty much the same (6Gb RAM, 15.6 inch, 1366x768, price, GeForce GT 630, 500Gb HDD and so on). The only differences are:
1. The Asus has an i5-2450M
2. The Acer has an i7-2670QM
3. The Asus has 1333Mhz memory speed while the Acer has 1066Mhz (although this dosen't matter at all really)
On this machine I am going to be doing mild gaming (minecraft, aoe, starcraft ETC, and possible skyrim and such but not on high settings), so the 630 fits nicely for me. It is small enough to be mobile yet you can play games on it ETC. I'm not actually sure if I will benefit from the i7 with 4 cores (2.2Ghz) then the i5 with 2 cores (2.5Ghz), but I doubt it. I know that Asus is one of the good ones out there for laptops, but I'm not sure how the Acer ranks in quality, and I'm wondering if the Acer's build quality, heat consumption, bloatware etc makes the Asus with the i5 a better choice then the acer with an i7?
Anyways, Acer with i7-2670QM or Asus with i5-2450M?
Get the asus. I'm pretty sure acer is a little lacking in quality, and the i7 will not benefit from the extra cores as much as the i5 would benefit from the higher clock.
I just ordered the Asus g75vw model. i7 610QM gtx 670m 16GB ram and 750 GB 7200RPM HDD. 17.3" screen size. people in review say it can run most games execpt maybe battlefield on max at 1080p. It was about $2016 CAD, but they had a cheaper model with 2nd gen intel and gtx 660m for $1900. You didn't give a budget.

I'm not asking for laptops, I already know my way around hardware and such, so I have already found 2 models. I'm just asking if the quality-loss of getting an i7 Acer rather then at i5 Asus is worth it. I will most likely pick the asus unless somebody has a really good argument as to why I should get the Acer.
Will I benefit in gaming from the i7 with 4 cores then the i5 with 2 cores? Remember that I'm not talking about i5's with 4 cores and i7's with 8 threads. Will the performance with the i5 be the same as the i7?

The i7 will have better performance for things like rendering, but for gaming you won't have an advantage.

Edit: I have a Gen1 i7. Comparing to my friends systems.
