I was wondering if anyone recommends a good graphic card for Minecraft that can run Minecraft at a far render distance with a decent amount of FPS (30+) that costs less than $150?
Also, is it only graphics card that matters for Minecraft, or does a good processor make a big difference too?
Sorry for the vague questions, but I thank you if you can help me. :smile.gif:
The processor has the biggest affect on Minecraft. If you have a good processor then a GT 430 or a Radeon HD 5670 will easily run Minecraft at default settings with 60+ fps.

Nobody's perfect, so neither is Hannah Montana Linux, but it's pretty great.

They all suck. They just suck differently. Sort of like prostitutes.

This is it for cheap, but if you want a graphics card that runs it very well, the 6770 or the 6850 is probably a good bet. No need for overkill here.

Intel Core i5 2500k @ 3.3Ghz CPU / MSI P67A-G43 B3 Motherboard / G.Skill Sniper 8Gb (2 x 4Gb) RAM / MSI Radeon HD 6850 Cyclone PE/OC Graphics Card / XFX 80+ Bronze 650W Power Supply / Seagate Barracuda 500Gb 7200RPM Hard Drive / NZXT Gamma Classic Case
i can't remember when i saw this but notch posted something about minecraft running better the more RAM you give it and RAM could in theory run things slightly better without buying a new graphics card. minecraft likes RAM :smile.gif:
Basically you need an ok Graphics Card but the main thing is the RAM of the Computer. If you wanna run minecraft fast you need at least 6GB RAM.

OK. Right now I have an Intel E6700 @ 3.2 GHz, so do you know if that is defined as a good processor, or would a better one be needed for a farther render distance. When I set it to far render distance with this processor, the game really lags, and my processor is definately not a top of the line processor. :wink.gif:

You do not need 6gb of Ram for MC. In it's unmodified state, Mc will only use one. Even then if you allocate 2gb, that's plenty (Means that 3gb or 4gb over RAm is fine).

More RAM helps to a point, but you don't really need more than 4 GB unless you are multi-tasking. It won't matter what amount of RAM he has if he has something like Intel graphics though.

Yes, I have Intel Graphics, and I just followed that guy's video and set Java to use around 1.7 GB of RAM, because I only have 3 GB in my machine.
I'm guessing that you have a 32bit Windows of some description then. And pretty much any upgrade on intel integrated will be an improvement, I have an HIS 4850 (soon to be 6970) and I run at about ~100 FPS.
I'm actually running Windows 7 64 bit, and I might check out that graphic card.

Here are two graphics cards that have good reviews and are at a low cost.
5670 | 6670
(Also, The 5670 runs most games on high (or sometimes even max) settings at 1600x900. It's a pretty nice card for the price)
