I've been aimlessly wandering the interwebs trying to figure out how to change the default font in 1.15. I've tried a few different methods from youtubers and the like yet nothing has worked so far. Can anyone help me out with this?
Fonts can be changed with a resource pack. Find a resource pack which has a font you like or make your own. If you do want to make your own, here is how:
2. go into .minecraft/versions/1.15 and open the 1.15.jar with 7zip or WinRAR or whatever archive tool you have. Now copy the font file from assets/minecraft/textures/font/ascii.png to the font folder in the template resource pack.
3. edit the font file (in the template) with any image editing software (I recommend paint.net) and apply the resource pack in-game.
(it's the same process if you just want to use an existing font from another resource pack)
That sounds horrible lol. From what I was seeing, minecraft use to let you add actual fonts and not a simple yet time consuming to edit png. Bummer. thanks.
I did some more research and it turns out you can still add the actual file. If you open the 1.15.jar with an archive tool and go into assets/minecraft/font, you will see that there are 3 files:
default.json - used to specify the game font.
alt.json - used for the glyphs from the enchantment table.
glyph_sizes.bin - defines the width for the Unicode font characters,
To add your font, create a file called "default.json" in res_pack/assets/minecraft/font and paste this in:
Now, just paste your .ttf font file in the same folder and fill in the filename in default.json. I didn't previously know this but there are more ways of inputting a font into the game and using a .png file was just one of them. In this example, the actual .ttf file is used for the font.
Awesome. I haven't tried it yet but that sounds legit. I saw a similar process, but it was for early 1.13 so I figured there had been changes. I just couldn't find the info I was looking for. Thank you.
and it worked. Thank you very much. I had done this before, but I apparently gave it a bad value and minecraft didn't like it so it went to default font. Strangely, with every ttf font I've tried so far, each font leaves a see through border around each character on signs. If you happen to learn a way of correcting that, let me know.
To be honest, I am only in command blocks; I know kind of nothing about ressourcepack, mods or plugins, but you shown it as clearly as possible! As a result, I had a new font on my game 5 minutes later without knowing anything about that before!!
You said to put the font files in assets/minecraft/font but there is a assets/minecraft/textures/font file in your template, I got a bit confused but it worked in assets/minecraft/font (1.14)...

Also made some more or less complicated datapacks, shared here (planetminecraft).
Well i wanted to know if we can make a datapack and add custom fonts in a MC server. I have a server on 1.16.5. Also if not possible can we open the server.jar file and edit the font in it.
The same concept applies to servers. You can specify a resource pack in your server.properties file and the server will prompt players to download it when they log in.

1. download this template resource pack I made: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/mle8wr81508ocli/AAAdZAuyS_wq65wipyhpB6STa?dl=0

The template was meant for the png method but now I added res_pack/assets/minecraft/font/default.json to it so there is no further confusion
