Ever since modloader started glitching out its been a pain in the butt, but i figured out a couple of ways to fix the black screen, modloader crash, etc.
1. If you've installed mods before with modloader delete your mods folder in your .minecraft folder (%appdata%).
2. When your installing a new mod try putting the .zip file on your desktop and then right click> extract files..> OK.
Then there should be a folder of that .zip file on your desktop, open it and drag the files into your .minecraft zip.
And BAM problem solved!
