Hello and welcome to the Minecraft texturing tutorial here are the requirements.
1.Minecraft jar file
2.Picture editing software ex.Paint.NET, Gimp
3.Time
To start off clear out all files in the jar file that are coding but keep texture folders/files ex.delete paulscode but dont delete GUI.
Next choose something to start with I reccomend terrain.png.(Block textures)
You should see all the different block textures, lets start with stone.
First off all there are 3-6 different colours (colors) you will use we will start with the main colour (color). Ok by now you know colour is color Americans.
The Main Colour
The main colour is the colour used mostly in the texture. Once you have chosen a main colour paint the whole texture that colour. ex.For stone i would use a grey, For dirt i would use a brown, ect.
The Supporter Coulour
Next step is to put some new darker than main colour paint dots over the texture. These support details for cracks, stones and other details to a texture. If you are doing a texture like cobblestone or brick use this colour for the lines in the block like the cracks on cobblestone.
The Detail Colours
After that, you need detail colours to keep your texture packs from being to simple looking. Add these colours mainly around the Supporter colour and different lighter than other detail colours away from the supporter colour.
The Extra Detail (Optional)
You may want some extra things in your texture like pebbles in sand clay chunks in sand for clay texture. To add these its very simple choose your Main colour for the extra part and add a supporter colour and a detail colour.
This is the end of my tutorial hope this helped and if you have questions ask me but read the FAQ before asking!
