The number one problem I have read about throughout the forums and in general when it comes to hosting minecraft servers is "how do I forward my ports?" and I have a VERY simple solution to that. Meet Simple Port Forwarding.
Simple Port Forwarding is a program designed to work with virtually all routers and all you need to know are the simple details for the port. To download the program visit Here. Just download the program (I recommend the direct download) and I will explain how it works in the rest of this tutorial.
Step 1: Installation
-Installation is easy and quick, just follow the simple instructions and let the installer work its magic. The directory it creates is small as is the program making it a very fast install.
Step 2: Setup
-Setup is a step by step process with precise instructions to make sure the program works properly with your model of router. Once you start the program for the first time the checklist with instructions and steps will popup. The windows looks like this:
Just follow each step, starting with updating the router list. After updating you must select your EXACT router model and enter your appropriate login information for your router. (The default login information is either: User - admin, Pass - admin OR No User and Pass - admin) When complete you may close out of the checklist.
Step 3: Minecraft Specific Ports and Values
-Now for the stuff related to minecraft. For minecraft the port 25565 is the port necessary to run a server at it's full potential (internet wise) On the main window of the program you will see a + sign toward the bottom right, this is to add a port forward entry, click that and it will open up a new window that looks like this:
If it does not look like this click on the "Add Custom" button towards the top of the window.
The Information added to the text boxes should be the following:
Name - Minecraft
Type - TCP/UDP
Start Port - 25565
End Port - 25565
IP Address - It is randomly calculated for the optimal connection.
After all the information is entered click the Add button in the bottom right and return to the programs main window.
Step 4: Forwarding!
-This is the last and easiest step of the entire tutorial, when the entry has been added to the program all you need to do is hit the "Update Router" button in the bottom right, a window will popup that shows you all of the things being done to your router. After everything is complete the program will save the settings entered and all you need to do is close the window!
Congratulations, you have successfully forwarded your ports for minecraft, this program works for any programs that need port forwarding and if you need any help feel free to contact me on AIM - Z4ND3Rx.
P.S. - If you would like to check if your ports have been forwarded click the Tools Tab then Test your port forwarding, just enter the port and check it to see if you have successfully forwarded your port(s)
If it did not work you may have to make your IP a static IP and I will look into creating another tutorial for that.
P.S.S - If you can not find your router user name or password, ask whoever set up your router or internet
I would love to see your servers and help with startups/maintenance so send me your IPs either through AIM or on this thread and I will be glad to join you. Happy Crafting!
