I decided to make this tutorial after seeing many threads asking for help on this.
Note: These exact steps can only be followed if you are using Windows. The same principle applies to other OS's though.
SSP World to SMP World
Before you start, you MUST have an SMP server. It's very hard to make an SMP map without a server.
Step 1:
Go to your start menu, then click all programs, click accessories and then click Run.
Step 2:
Type this into the text box on the Run program:
%appdata%
Step 3:
Open the folder ".minecraft" Then, open the folder "Saves" Now, find your map folder, but do not open it.
Step 4 (Optional):
You can compress your map using a compression utility(I use 7zip) or you can right click in the saves folder, click new, and then click zipped folder. When you have made this zipped folder, drag your map into it.
Step 5:
This step will vary because of different server setups. Basically, you must take the map folder(zipped or unzipped) and place it in the Root directory of your server. This means the top level, or the same level as your server jar(If you have no clue what this means I suggest you don't run a server)
Step 6 (Recommended):
Open your server properties file, and change the map name to whatever you want. I suggest using something descriptive like "MainWorld" After that, change the name of your maps folder to correspond to the name in your properties file.
SMP World to SSP World
Before you start, you MUST have an SMP server. It's very hard to download an SMP map without a server.
Step 1:
You must download the SMP server's map folder. It can be compressed.
Step 2:
Go to your start menu, then click all programs, click accessories and then click Run.
Step 3:
Type this into the text box on the Run program:
%appdata%
Step 4:
Open the folder ".minecraft" Then, open the folder "Saves"
Step 5:
If your map is compressed, decompress it. Then, drag the map folder into your saves folder.
Step 6 (Recommended):
If you do not plan on uploading this map to an SMP server, you can delete the players folder. The players folder is found in the first level of the map folder.
