What's up people? This is my first post so pleez dont hate :tongue.gif:
I finally figured out how to make texture packs, and after looking online I couldn't find any that helped me.
So without further ado, I present my comprehensive guide for texture pack making - for complete idiots.
I will be using a mac. FIRST OFF open the "Finder" application in your dock.
Click your harddrive picture on the left, and then click "users"
Pick your profile.
You should see a file called "library". Open that, and click "Application Support".
Click the Minecraft file. NOW THERE'S THAT BIN FILE EVERYBODY TELLS YOU TO OPEN!
So open it.
At the top, you should be able to see a file called minecraft.jar.
Right click it, and click the "compress minecraft.jar" option.
Oh, joy! You have a minecraft.zip file. double click that, and you should get a file called "minecraft 2".
Brilliant, this is where you'll make all of your changes. Open files, edit the look for them (I use fireworks). For example, scroll down and find the "terrain.png" picture. Drag that into fireworks, and edit. Save it to the same file again.
When you are finished, close the file and open it again. (Just to make sure your at the main file, dummy )
Command + A, to select all of the files. Right click one, and select "compress 585 items".
Scroll to the bottom and drag the "Archive.zip" to your desktop. Right click it, select "get info" open the "name and extensions" section and rename it to minecraft.jar (NO CAPITALS). Click "use .jar" on the popup.
Now you have your custom minecraft.jar, congratulations! Now, open finder and get to the bin folder again (see beginning). There's the old minecraft.jar, but you want to substitute it with the one on your desktop.
Drag that one to where the old minecraft.jar was, and click "replace" on the popup. (If there is no popup, you didn't type minecraft.jar exactly as it used to be). CONGRATULATIONS! You just changed what things in the game look like, based on how you drew them! Pull up minecraft and check out your creation!
NOTE: Always keep copies of your minecraft files. You don't want to mess something up and have your beloved minecraft screwed up! I am not responsible if you mess your files up so pleez dont get mad at me if you do! Have fun editing textures!!!!
