first guide to texture packs I've seen. props to you for taking the initiative ;D
thanks :smile.gif: my goal is to get this stickied so that everyone can learn from it. I have gotten alot better and that is part of the reason i made this
I have a question that might be a bit off topic. Does anyone know how painterly makes his auto customizer? Is it a simple or complex project to undertake? I'm starting to amass a lot of alternate blocks because I like variety but I realize the average minecrafter does not have the skill set to modify their own pack. I would like to do something similar to the simple click what you want program but I have a sneaky suspicion that it is a very time consuming process
I've just been editing terrain.jpg as a whole in photoshop. I have not merged anything. I have like fifty layers so far. It is extremely inconvenient, but it works for me because I am a disorganized person.
Are CorelDRAW and CorelPHOTO-PAINT okay for making texture packs or is it recommended that I get GIMP or similar?
As long as the graphics program can support layers and transparency you're set. Use what you're familiar with. You'll get the best results that way.
I tried switching from Photoshop to Gimp once, it was a nightmare. Almost none of the commands were even remotely similar, the keybindings were wierd and even though I know you can reset the shortcuts and keybindings, I didn't have the patience to look everything up and figure out how to do it.
Using a program you're familiar with is always a better option.
im not sure how to start out making a texture pack.
This basicly gives tips but it kind of jumps into the making, not really showing how to start out.
I might have missed it but can somebody help tell how to start out making one so i can get it into my hollow head?
I have possibly a stupid question, I have just started making my own texture pack, when I save it and test it out, all the pixels do not show up in the test world.
Is it how I save it the problem or do I need the HD loader thinger?
What I had done was, I have been editing the default terrain, to make it my own. I just now checked the size and it says it's 256x256, so I take it it's obviously not 16x16 so I do need the HD loader thingy?
ah I'm dumb, the resolution says it's 95.43 pixels/inch.
Word.
Also, if I may offer a tip:
Don't do something easy just because it's your first texture pack. Challenge yourself. The pack will be better and you will be a better artist for it.

Always, always test your textures in-game. You might like the way it looks in an editor but it might not look good in the game.

Select it, copy and paste.
Thank you.

Yeah, same with fences and half-blocks.
Well that's good. So if I wanted to add custom stairs, I would just edit the original stairs thing? Or is there different code I would have to use?
No, I meant that it uses the wood texture
