Also, I'd like to point out a mistake I was making in hopes that it will help any more potential terrain creators. you files have to be in the root directory of the .zip file. It cannot be /New Folder/terrain.png, just /terrain.png
In the 1.2.6 minecraft jar, terrain.png, rock.png, and waterterrain.png are nowhere to be found.
They haven't updated to 1.2.6 yet dude...
And thank you for this guide, you have really helped me along with my texture pack, before I ran across this I was merely basing my folder off the two other packs I have, making sure I had each folder there blah blah...But neither had the pack.png or anything o.o so thank you! ^-^
2.] Install the program to a directory of your choice
3.] Go to your " .minecraft\bin" directory and RIGHT CLICK your "minecraft.jar"
4.] Find the option that says "Open with..."
5.] If not already listed, select the browse option, and go to the directory of where you installed your Zip-archive program. Select the program and click "okay" (Or whatever it says)
6.] Your minecraft.jar should open within that program. If that all didn't work (OR if your on a Mac OS X) Then you either missed a step/did it wrong, or you downloaded the wrong program for your machine.

You open ANY jar file with a program like "WinRAR" "WinZip" or "7zip"
1.] Download one of these programs
http://www.win-rar.com/download.html (Find the correct program to match your machine)
http://www.winzip.com/win/en/index.htm
http://www.7-zip.org/download.html (Again, find the correct program to match your machine)

Hope that helped!
