So when the server starts, If we help out, We will get money?
He means that If your Job is Architect you have all these structures to build for the city But say if your a farmer you can not contribute to building The structures therefor it is the architects job only.

Actually that is not necessarily true. You could offer to help the architect as an "apprentice". If the architect accept he would then tell you how to help him with his task and would pay you some money for it. Probably wont be much. But maybe the real reward is taking part to the building process ? Later on on your charecter could claim that he helped build that glorious castle "over there".
So to be precise. Only architects and apprentices that are helping an architect may build stuff. I figure that for epic buildings, a few apprentices would be welcome so that the building process do not take 2 weeks of real life time. After all, the sooner the architect finish the job the sooner he can start the next epic building and get an other epic check. Because an epic pay check per month is great, but one per week is better (even if you share some of it). But I guess that an architect could insist on doing stuff on his own. Alternatively, you could be fired as an apprentice if you screw up to much or not not follow the architect's instructions like you should. On the other hand an architect could give better payment to an especially useful apprentice to encourage him to keep up the good work and motivate him to continue helping him.
So, How would a farmer, Miner, Architect, etc get his land? Is he given it? Does he need to work as a apprentice and gain the money first?
You may get a one time no interest loan from the bank to help you buy expensive stuff when you first start. Like buying a land for example. You would later have to pay the loan back or otherwise the banker could size your land or something. But so long as you provide regular payment you should be fine.
Edit: Things may work a bit differently at server start. You could get loan from noble man instead or maybe the noble man could give you some land in exchange for community work or something. This is not set into stone yet. Thermalburn and I are busy with server technicalities right now. We will get back to RP rules and stuff right after everything is up and running. I know I'm sounding like an admin here. But really, thermalburn just value my input and appreciate my help. But you people can suggest things to thermalburn too. If it makes sense. Things could very well end up working that way in the end. All you need to do is speak up your mind.

That is not determined yet. Here is a good chance for your input. How big would you like them to be and why should they be that size ?
Well, Things like houses and shops need to be different sizes than a Farm or a mine, But what the lots will be used for should decide the price and size, If someone wanted to build a Farmhouse with a barn and the farm, It should include the costs for a house and a farm into one price.
Small House: 6x6
Med House: 9x9
Large House: 15x15
Im not really sure on the farms, But the farm should probably go Small, Medium or large as well.

I think that price will be based more on size and location. Central town district would be more expensive then say the field outside of town. Farmlands need to be big, so you want to buy in cheap area. Shops do not take much space, but they do need to be rather central, so you buy in expensive high traffic area. Naturally there would be zoning rules. Even if you are willing to pay a real fortune you are not going to be allowed to setup a farm in the central town district. This is very similar to how things work in real life.
Charging price based on what you plan on doing on the land is unrealistic. Players might not actually know what they plan on doing. Ok so they may want a house now. But what about later ? We can't do that. That is not how it work in real life either.
What have not been determined is how big a land people should be able to afford buying with the starting loan.
This seems like it would be a whole lot of fun! I'd really like to join as a Blacksmith or Miner. One quick question, I'm not sure if it was answered yet, but is it possible if I do become a Miner to at least build a little shack for myself and not have to hire a architect? I don't really like the idea of being completely homeless. :tongue.gif:

Yes, you may build a small primitive looking dirt hut outside of town. Alternatively, you could live in a corner of your mine (so long as you are not actually making an underground house. Should be rather crude. Bare minimum). But I'm pretty sure that you will want some cool buildings sooner or later.

As Zhab said, its going to be based on size rather than what you do with it. again we dont want a farm that right in front of the castle, and since farms are large you may want to buy land on the out skirts of town where it's much cheaper.
After talking it through with Zhab, chances are the currency will be Lapis Lazuili as those truly are useless.
We havent decided but it could be something like, 5 lapis lazuli for every 6x6 plot of land. . However that very same land right accross from the castle and near the town center could be like 15 lapis lazuli. Again this is an example, its not true we havent decided how much it will go for.

small dingy dirt structure around 6x6 you can build yourself on the outskirts of town. If you buy property and want to build a larger house you need to hire an architect to lay the foundation AT LEAST and then you can go about building it yourself (you must buy the wood unless your a lumberjack). Alternatively, if you have the money, you can hire the architect to build a professional home for you.
One of the architects on this server is an actual real life architect, so i'm curious to see his skills in action; we have real talent in our server :smile.gif:
But if its cheaper outside the middle, Everyone will be first moving to the outsides, Meaning that the outside would become more of a middle than the actual middle.
The Original Post has been updated (purple text). I've posted a link to the blog with all the players and their jobs. Make sure everything is correct...
But if its cheaper outside the middle, Everyone will be first moving to the outsides, Meaning that the outside would become more of a middle than the actual middle.
when we're starting out, everywhere is the middle lol. As the town grows, the original area we settled will develop first, thats when the it will become premium land.
So basically when we're first starting out, most of the land will cost the same. If you're a farmer you still want to make sure you buy land somewhat further away from the center; otherwise as the town grows around you, the disgruntled high class residents, may not be pleased.
Then the nobility will send a squad of town watch to evict you and force you to relinquish your land. :tongue.gif:
Besides, the original settlers will receive a larger grant of money than people who show up later.
Well, I think as time goes, Like real life, Areas where farms were to start off with later are houses, Because the more the town grows, The larger the border gets, Maybe we can sell land once houses start to be build around our farm/mine/etc and use that to buy cheaper land outside the city.

of course. It will take a while before our little settlement becomes a bustling city.
For now, you can build your farms near the town (again, its probably not best to build it directly in front of the castle), and thats probably the best as we need to bind together for protection in the beginning.
as time goes on and your land becomes more valuable, you can sell off that huge chunk of farmland for a profit and relocate outside the city walls.
The owner thermalburn has posted that the server is actually up and running at the moment but it has not opened to the public as the owner is currently installing plugins an setting the world up.
But i would say that it could possibly open today or tomorrow. If you keep an eye on either this thread or the blog im sure one of them will be updated soon.
Ill make myself cross eyed and keep one eye on each.
