I have used so many hosts. I found minerack and I saw the prices... I was stunned... The cheapest prices I have seen for quality servers. They have great support staff who love to have fun as well as just wonderful servers with no lag. Some hosts will tell you how many player slots you get, Minerack lets you choose how many. Also how can you beat $4 to the GB that is insane for a premium server! I cannot say it enough how much I love them! Most people who use them, Will tell you the same. Thanks minerack for making my server experience so much later!
Hi! I'm considering getting a couple of servers from you guys, and was wondering if a 2GB server would be sufficient to run a Forge 1.7.10 server with about 70 mods?
Minerack.org seems like a great host! Can't wait to try it out for myself!

Check out my server play.spikeycraft.com! (If I haven't broken it... )
It would depend on which 70 mods they were. Generally modpacks like newer feed the beast want 4-6GB.
If your mod doesn't use multiple worlds and just sticks with nether/end/world then it doesn't usually take more than 2-3gb but if you add twilight/multiworld/mystcraft then you are looking at a lot more ram.
My advice is try seeing how much it takes by running the server locally and playing in creative mode to add machines, get things moving, if you are going to use multiple worlds open a few and zone in... See how much it takes.
You could also just try a 2gb server and if you need more upgrade later.
I've been running the server on my computer for a little while but found that it was not powerful enough (either not enough RAM or good enough CPU IDK). I have decided to go with the 2.5GB server after your helpful insight! Looking forward to a great time!

Also i will be purchesing my next ( 3rd ) server from you guys later to complete my network! Thanks alot! - When will you get out of other hosts? Also are you planning to upgrade cpus etc in the futre?
Other hosts?
Tim has been asking that we get some faster processors so we'll look into that in the future.
I know he wants to be able to support FTB/etc properly.
Yeah i guess. How much ram you running on each box? over 32 gbs you should be looking at e5's 32 or under - e3's
We have 72GB in the current rigs since we use L5638/L5639 CPU's.
We base everything off what power consumption is. Hardware is a one off cost and we can work that all out, but if something is eating a mountain of power that costs us since we can't put as many nodes. The 16xx E5's are an interesting CPU but my beef with them is that they're 130W CPU's and I'd have to shove 96GB RAM in it. 96GB RAM w/ only 12 threads is heavily taxing that node. Sure, we could add another CPU but now we'd be hitting 2.5A per node and we'd be losing money again.
I think the E3's are a good fit since they're 69W for the base CPU. We actually have a plan put together for truly dedicated cores but the only way to handle that without overselling was to force the minimum at 4GB purchases at $20/month.
For FTB that isn't a bad price and is probably a little bit under what market price currently is but yeah.
It's all on the world domination plan, we just have to get to a nice equilibrium on everything to make it work
I should probably give a bit of an update on things
We're currently working on bringing some E3's online in Las Vegas and all new 4GB+ plans will be going here. We don't have enough spare of them yet to bring over current customers but you can put in a ticket and we'll see what we can do. We went with a 4GB minimum as that's what FTB/etc usually recommend.
Las Vegas has had its DDOS protection increased to 100gbit+. We're working on getting Luxembourg the same but no promises yet.
The E3's have arrived!!! All servers in Las Vegas will use E3's for plans 4GB and higher. The website has not been updated yet so here are the links. The website should be updated Monday, which is our official launch date for the E3s, but you can get them early.
^^^ what he said. I have tested a new E3 account with my own 99-mod modpack and the FTB Infinity pack -- very fast, very smooth. Extra bonus, the Las Vegas ping is insanely fast for me, literally 10ms from my ISP. Of course, YMMV.
As a side note, the reason we're limiting this to 4GB+ plans only on the E3's is because it allows us to more or less mark a whole dedicated core to each user.
This means you won't have to worry about CPU lag, etc. Storage is of course pure SSD.
At this rate we might run out of E3s and have to order more. I'm happy we have been getting such positive feedback here, on other social media, and in tickets. As always if there is anything we can do to make your Minerack experience better we want to hear it.
I have been using Minerack for a while, I actually have quite a few 1gb servers with them, and their service is fantastic. Their support staff are extremely nice and friendly, and they are very helpful. If your looking for a minecraft server, I highly recomend Minerack :).
Just as a small update:
Services in Las Vegas have been upgraded to 100gbit DDOS protection This isn't OVH filtering or anything like that, it's handled through Voxility.
Luxembourg is online and going strong so if you're interested in Europe hosting, let us know!
We've put in a request to finally move this thread out of here and into the official hosting section, fingers crossed

That went up the other day. You can see the new site at http://minerack.org
We're in the middle of adding a live chat option for sales questions. For the sake of customer privacy & security, we'll not be doing support over it.

Open a support ticket, Tim will get you all fixed up
I need to check but we should have direct credit card payments allowed.

I talked to the admins but they've closed to application for now so we're kinda stuck here
The 47xx stuff is nice but I try to stay away from desktop processors.

That's no problem, you can point an SRV or A record to your dedicated IP address. We can help you with this all if you ticket

We are offering the E3's at the same $4/GB which should make you FTB, Tekkit, and ATLauncher modpack people happy.
