Most hosts are off for Christmas so it's fairly understandable you can't reach them today.
Send me a pm about hosting your server, maybe we can work something out for you.
I can understand the usual customer support to be off today but a reliable host would employ some kind of monitoring script so they would be notified if a server was completely down and un-pingable. All the good web hosting companies do that. And as a web developer our company does the same for our clients with a simple script.
@Minerdave -- where is your company based? Your site mentions you have been providing hosting since 2003. Is there a parent company which has a website that is more complete and offers a better profile of your company and staff?
Well after getting screwed by an overloaded node and poor service with both Provisionhost and FeHosting I signed up with Allgamer and everything is running great. Their staff is actually active in the community plus they are one of the few operations that appear to have a toll free number.

Yeah, I've almost decided. It's either 123systems or AllGamer, but AllGamer seems a bit too expensive. And we'd get FTP on 123systems.
By the way, which of them are running on Xen? I don't want OpenVZ. 123systems is running on OVZ, is that good or bad? I don't know what to look for.

Trust me, after getting screwed by two companies I can say you get what you pay for. With Allgamer I am getting 200+ MB/s hard drive i/o compared to 7-26 on FeHosting.
123systems looks like yet another reseller template with stock photos likely run by one guy in his basement. If you see the word cheap, RUN! Also they say nothing about gaming so it is likely hard driver performance will cripple Minecraft. Most hosting companies that just run stuff for websites don't need fast hard drive speed.
I'd always run server on my own computer, only if my upload would be high. :tongue.gif:

Oh my god RUUUUUN! :biggrin.gif:
Haha well they failed their goal on the cheap part but then again my two previous hosts failed at the whole game server part.
We got the MC server with 1.5GB of ram and auto backups. Didn't get the $3/mo McMyAdmin because I had my own licence which I was able to setup. All together it is $50/mo but with friends donating to me on paypal it is easily affordable. Have people setup automatic monthly to help you pay and your set.

I'll let Allgamer speak for themselves but they have a good name on the forums. I don't think taking one quote like that from their website does them justice. Everyone starts a company with a goal and that often changes over time :smile.gif:
We're relatively cheap for what we offer. We like to try and compare to the likes of Linode and RapidXen. I am in no way claiming we're as good as them, but we do try to provide a decent price on nearly the same specs with amazing hardware.

Anyway, I'm looking for more of unmanaged VPS, right? I know a friend who knows SSH, WinSCP and Putty.
You have SSH and SFTP access with Allgamer. I used the same tools to setup McMyAdmin since I had my own license. Their Minecraft Servers are just VPS servers with everything pre-installed and ready to go.
I have 123Systems, they are great for me. I can PM you the IP if you would like to test it.

Wow, that is very fast. And I am not just saying 123Systems is good because I want money, it is decent for the type of server I run. Of course it wouldn't run near as good as an AllGamer.net setup, but it is cheaper.

To be honest our VPS' are unmanaged, but I'm usually too nice to say no when people ask for help with things.

Don't really believe 123systems to have that on their real VPS, only on some unused box maybe.
Okay, here's my decicion, I guess.
1. Start with cheap 123systems. I/O is average (I believe they run it on 30-40 MB/s), runs on OpenVZ. Have around 20 people play on the server.
2. Move to AllGamer as needed.
And of course, unmanaged is what we like. :smile.gif:

Ask 123systems to run
and give you the result.
Bust honestly look at their site, it is all stock template .....
Anybody here say good things about them?
123systems has a good name on WHT. It's budget hosting though, what you pay for is what you get.
Any host can whip out some nice numbers off one of their servers doing this quick test.
