No but I know all the issues and things you can do with it. I don't have to run a server. We own a fantastic server with amazing talent running it.
However, I didn't realize you could not upload. That is kinda butt, but if you are running vanilla I don't see an issue. Only time we really needed to fix something was when an update would create a floating bedrock structure in the air. But that has not happened since 1.0 came out. Oh yeah we have been running it for over 3 years...
Anywho,.. It is clear that this is for the casual players or kids. And I think it is a great option. I just wish they were not the swag gift and we got another account to give to friends. We have no use for our Realms offer.
I might write a tutorial for the noobs to read to setup a cheap server to the absolute minimum. I'd also write a Java application that provides all, if not more, functionality that Realms does and have a tutorial on how to set that up.
It's not that hard to ask your parents to get out a credit card and have them go through the payment process
Maybe not your parents in particular, but I've seen dozens upon dozens either here or in other forums in the past decade about kids complaining that their parents won't give their credit card information out online so they have no way of buying something online. You only seem to understand what it in it for you, not from the general public's perspective.
And why would they put console support on it? That is just super dumb. Games on the console version are saved on the client side. There are no servers on the console.
By "console" they mean "command line", not console as in an XBOX. But not having console support isn't a downside, since the server owner can just type in the same set of commands that a console would be able to type in.

The fact that you are getting so butt-devastated over Realms makes me want to pay for the service even more. You're actually doing Mojang a favor.
I'm unclear what this 30 day subscription of Realms does, can someone clarify?
We forgot to meet again! Also, I've head realms since March, being one of the alpha-testers. It's nothing special. It's like a Minecraft server with no plugins etc.

It's even worse than a vanilla server ran on your own system, I pointed out the reasons on the last page.

I'm devastated? How does this affect me? I'm trying to help people save money and get something proven better, how is that a problem?
Really? You want to buy it even more? Go ahead, buy it.
