In past years we've received it 2 different ways. The first year we put in our account name and it was attached to our usernames, and the second year we we're emailed a link. I was wondering if it will be any different this year or if we will be emailed a link like last year.

Don't know if this is true, but according to some people on Twitter ( I don't use Twitter) Mojang released you will most likely get your cape through the goody bag that comes with you after Minecon.
There has been no official information released about how Mojang will give out capes other than the requirement that you have to attend Minecon to get it.
Any talk about it being via email, goodie bag, etc. is nothing but speculation at the moment.
They send the code for it to the ticket-holder's e-mail address right after MineCon.
