I wonder what they're going to do about that. It would be weird to show up at Minecon and have like 50 people actually there. I got my room at the Peabody and I live in Orlando I don't want to miss a second of it.
Honestly theses days I wouldn't be surprised if only half of the purchases were legitimate people that plan on going to the Minecon and it could be under that too, the others is a split between lets say 90% of them are people that just want to scalp tickets to make profit, and 10% others that probably just want a Cape somehow just to show off and brag about it. I wanted to go to a show in Montreal once, the tickets were all gone and people wants to sell them 400% more of their value. I think honestly that if someone is willing to pay 1739$ for a ticket to the Minecon he really needs help and probably should go check himself at his local hospital in the psychiatric ward, there's remedy for this...
That make sense after all, One thing, I'll be at the Minecon this time, but I'm still unsure if I should try to sell it on ebay or somewhere on a new premium account or keep it for myself, I don't go on public servers so this cape would be useless for me, only play on my private family server and sometimes visit some servers just long enough to see them lag and I quit...
if you never play online, i'd sell it. You could really get a pretty penny off those capes. but i would wait a bit longer after the con. That way there are less of them available online to buy from other sellers.
I was checking all things Mojang on Twitter last night and the consensus is that scalpers and resalers do not account for very many of the ticket sales. That's pretty good considering how many tickets were sold, and especially compared to other conventions.
Nope now its official, I'll keep my official cape for myself, a 100% proof that I was there, just hope that we can choose to show it or not or choose another cape to show if we want too (and I don't want to need a mod for this, have to be vanilla here)

Mojang added a feature for cape owners on the Minecraft website that allows them to turn their cape on, off, or switch capes. Pretty neat.
Good. The tickets aren't infinite. Those who bought the tickets only to get a stupid cape took away the chance from someone who actually wanted to go to minecon but couldn't because some dicks bought tickets to get a cape. Serves them right. I don't feel bad for them one bit
I think that is good to, greed doesn't pay out. Don't feel sorry for those people!!!!!
Good thing I'm going, people who buy tickets for capes are selfish and Mojang should of announced this way before the ticket sales so more people could of attended.
This doesn't make any sense. I mean HOW are you going to receive a cape this year? By email or what? Capes are given AT Minecon isn't all the information.
Plus I bet we will receive a cape from via email. Go ask Mojang on Facebook. They said capes will be given out by via email.
You need to attend Minecon in order to receive the cape, confirmed. How will they distributed it? Not sure yet, but these are two possibilities.
1. Give them your username upon check-in at the event
2. Get a cape code in your goodie bag

Alternatively at check-in (when the ticket barcode is scanned) the attendee checking in is reported back to some sort of database and then when emails are sent out the emails are sent only to people that checked in.
I think there should be more ways to get capes, like buying them from the minecraft store or something.
they would have to limit the designs so people can fake minecon or staff capes though.
Notch has spoken out against this sort of thing in the past, and I'm sure Jeb is on the same page as well. DLC capes would not only be a shameless attempt at more $$$, but Notch said capes in Vanilla were meant to be special. Minecraft would go the route of Team Fortress 2, where people would become more obsessed with cosmetic items as opposed to the actual gameplay.
Honestly I think Mojang should of never came up with Minecon capes. Half of the tickets sold we're just to get a virtual item, and then the people like me who genuinely wanted to go can't go.

1. You might as well make that statement for every con that offers a virtual item.
2. I still think that it is a great idea, as it a great reward for attending a convention.
It is unfortunate that they didn't make this very clear before the ticket sales started. There are probably quite a few people who wouldn't have even bothered purchasing a ticket if this had been stated beforehand.
Agreed. How much you think that half of the tickets sold were sold because people were like "Buying tickets then sending Mojang my E-Mail for a cape! Well too bad cape lovers! You wasted $150 to go and you can't even attend!" ... That is just ridiculous people bought tickets just for Capes...
Why is everyone bashing the people that bought tickets for capes so much? Jesus people, be nicer to your community :/
As somebody stated, capes in mc are supposed to be special as we can't buy them in some online store or whatever; that's EXACTLY why people buy tickets for the cape! Because they're special.
Or maybe someone wants to attend and get the cape, but they don't have the extra money for travel, housing, food, etc; so they figure getting the cape is the next best thing.
With all that said, those people who buy tickets for capes are still contributing to Mojang and the development of this game; show some sense of community :/
Looks like quite a bit so far. I am starting to see tons of scalpers on ebay.
