So...do mod creators like Kaevator and the Super Slopes mod with upside down blocks give Jeb his coding rights to "borrow" his idea since I do believe Kaevator was one of the first to code angles, slopes, and round in minecraft...other than our mysterious circular shadows underneath the player and mobs xD

Read the "terms of service agreement" for Minecraft. Essentially.... if you publish a mod in public, Mojang is free to do whatever they want to do with your mod and use your code in any way that they please, without even acknowledging your work or especially offering any sort of compensation for your effort. Generally they have acknowledged contributors and put their names on as "additional programming by" in the game credits, but legally speaking they don't even have to do that.
If you don't like those terms, don't be modding Minecraft. Realize that anything you are doing is essentially a donation to Mojang. If you wanted to be an ass about it, you might be able to stop Mojang from using your mod, but then they could go back after you for violating the terms of service and kill your mod as well from a much stronger position legally speaking and even go after you for copyright infringement.
In other words, don't be a jerk, and be flattered if your mod gets adopted into the main game. Most games like Minecraft usually push modders into the shadows of the gaming world living in a dubious twilight of tweaking the game only among themselves. At least more ordinary game players can access Minecraft mods and that modding is being supported and encouraged by Mojang on any level. Mojang doesn't even mind modders making a little bit of money from the mods as well.
...I love Minecraft far more than I ought to. When I saw that image I literally flew a good three feet back, threw my hand over my mouth, and gasped in sheer amazement.
It was as if I had just witnessed, I don't know...the most spiritually relavant think you can think of.

Upside down stairs!... Jeb read my mind! I feel all exposed and naked now....
Awesome update Jeb. This will help beautify my buildings and cap my columbs. Now I just want half block slabs to have the option of being placed at the top of the cuboid or the bottom.
unfortunatly even if we had the ability to place half block slabs at the top of the cuboid, the entire cuboid would still be considered occupied. What we need is the ability to place redstone circuits on the underneath side of blocks.
To the few people that are saying the cave system are fine as they are now in the lateset snapshot: You are forgetting one thing. Without caves, you can't find materials like redstone, diamonds, or gold. Dungeons also spawn mostly far underground in caves so those would be missing as well.
I am so glad they finally got it in vanilla now. No need to DL a mod that will break as soon as an update is made. Been itching for these steps for a long while now and hoping for inverted half slabs. I am gonna visualise my rooms and see how this will affect my work. Most certianly will involve significant changes to my existing builds.
Here's hoping for steps and slabs of most other bricks including mossy stone/cobble cracked stone brick, sandstone and obsidian.
