Did anyone notice how similar this April Fools joke is to the actual announcement when Jeb took over from Notch?
Here is the joke post edited to show all the changes between this April Fools joke and the announcement when Jeb took over from Notch.
Changes (bold = added, strikethrough = removed):
In light of his deep love for cats, JebNotchhas confirmed that this baby ocelot - named "Missus Puddums", cherished mascot at EA - will now be the Lead Developer for Minecraft, going forward, following the takeover of the game by gaming industry giant, Electronic Arts(better known to the community as Jeb) . This gives PuddumsJeb final say in all design decisions, though JebNotch jokingly added that he made himher "promise to not sell hatspull rank." JebNotch cites personal time and additional projects as reasons for his stepping down, but makes it a point to say that he will still be involved in Minecraft development.
Some of the proposed changes to Mincraft include:
- "Always on" DRM, to reduce account-spoofing
- Monthly DLC packages
- Graphics enhancement, to make Minecraft more realistic
JebNotch added that it was a "scary move, but I feel strangely confident. I guess we've worked close enough for long enough for me to feel confident about it. EAJeb is exactly what Minecraft needs right now. PuddumsJeb is a bit more DLC-friendlymod friendly than I am, and we need to embrace DLCmods more."
PuddumsJeb commented on the situation as well, stating that she wasn't "sure when the idea came up the first time (from JebNotch), but it has been a few months now. We all knew that JebNotch was going to work on other things after 1.8release, so it kind of seemed natural for me to 'take over'. Besides, I can clean myself while I'm working, and efficient use of time is important to us."
Puddums'Jeb's next step is to work on the catmod API for Minecraft, a long-awaited feature for players and modders alike, which will be the first paid DLC for the game. She had the following to say on the API:
Missus PuddumsJens Bergensten said:
Until June, I will be the only developer on Minecraft, so things will have to be slow initially. But my absolute main priority now is to create a fishmod API DLC, because there is no way in hell I will be able to add as much fishcontent as the whole internet can do. The game needs more fishan API, so end users can obtain themthe mods without hassle. I'm not going to do it all by myself though. We have a new programmer beginning in JuneJanuary, and we are talking to existing fishmod API teams, such as Bukkit-O-Fish, Minecraft Forgefish, and Minecraft CoderFisher Pack. If we can make a little money on the side from it, all the better.
She went on to add that a release for the new DLCAPI would likely be seen no sooner than AugustMarch.
JebNotch and PuddumsJeb have collaborated on Minecraft development for over a week, and JebNotch has expressed the utmost confidence in his collaborator's capabilities. You can contact Missus PuddumsJens Bergensten via Twitter.
PuddumsJeb was originally hired as EA's office mascotMojang's back-end developer, to see if real ocelots made good companions. Over time, PuddumsJeb became increasingly involved in the development of Minecraft, and is now responsible for many well-known (and expensive) DLC packs for other gamesparts of the game. Having worked on features such as fish DLCwolves, cat fur pattern DLCpistons, and map structures (scratching postsvillages, litterboxesstrongholds, and nether dogsnether fortresses, all part of the Home Decor DLC), she now takes herhis vision of Minecraft's future forward as the official head developer of the game. Congratulations, Missus PuddumsJens Bergensten!
Also, I wasn't fooled by this post at all. This joke wasn't as good as last year's fake version. Last year's could have actually fooled me if i'd seen it on 4/1/13, before it was revealed to be fake. This one only made me laugh.
"Roughly 95% of Minecraft players hate Villagers and would be very happy if they were removed. If you are one of the 5% who actually like villagers, copy this into your signature." -RainbowGirl
I'm totally for this new change. An ocelot as a game dev is the best idea Mojang has ever had, and they'll probably open the door for every other major developer out there, like Activision. Once they get those felines behind the computer screen, put a keyboard and mouse (obviously the mouse would be made of a sturdy material due to the ocelot's curious natures) in front of them and watch the magic happen.

This is their April Fool's Day joke right? RIGHT?!?!?!?!??!
Of course it is, you daft fool. Its even more transparent than the obvious April Fools story they posted last year.
This is why I hate April Fools Day. These sorts of completely blatant April Fools hoax articles are published and I'm suddenly, and quite forcefully reminded that the majority of people around me completely lack anything even remotely resembling common sense, because they all swallow it hook line and sinker. And I don't even get to feel self-satisfied about apparently being smarter than everyone else, because I'm too frustrated that everyone else is apparently dumber than me.
I looked at the title and was honestly surprised by what I saw... then the date told me everything. I can't believe I actually fell for that and I don't know whether to feel annoyed or amused. Anyways APRIL FOOLS PEOPLE
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
All the mods, resource packs and maps that I support all go in this awesome sentence.

Gotta give some credit though, the title of the news article did scare me a bit.
