Also, lol @ all of you saying you're going to stop playing now. You do realize what you've been playing for the last 3 or 4 months is pretty much 90% Jens, right?
Well, I'd say 90% of the "finished" stuff is Jens. Everything else that is still being "worked on" is still in Notch's field (biomes, The End, dragons, and generation in general) while all Jens needs to finish is NPC AI, and considering they are hiring a third wheel to take care of that I suppose it isn't his problem anymore, nor do I believe he was qualified to work on something that hard to begin with.
Jens is a good programmer, but Notch has always been the creative one while Jens ends up working out the kinks, so he hasn't had much time to be creative in that aspect.
It shouldn't be about Notch or Jeb, it's about Mojang growing as a game development studio. Notch is moving on to develop more games and entrusting his creation to a capable and dedicated team mate. Congrats Jeb, you have the helm....now don't screw it up!
Well, now i'm happy, since Jeb said in Gamasutra that he will work in a Mod API for Minecraft.
In his own words...
"But my absolute main priority now is to create a mod API, because there is no way in hell I will be able to add as much content as the whole internet can do"
This is a good development. Jeb has already been doing a lot for the game, even took temporary reins back in 1.7-1.8 The only negative thing I can say about his work thus far is that he got the time of release waaay off back in 1.8, twice actually. This lead to them covertly leaking the patch just to keep people sated, and was not a high-point to say the least. I like his work, just hope peer pressure will not cause him to release a product earlier than it should be, etc.
Minecraft will still be great and I plan on enjoying it for many years to come. Best game I bought in a long, long time.
Wow, that was a surprise! Congratulations Jeb! Honestly I think Notch was running out of ideas and now that Jeb is in complete control I think we will begin to see a much better game to evolve from here on. CAN'T WAIT FOR API!!! YAY!

"Sometimes it's necessary to go a long distance out of the way in order to come back a short distance correctly."
This is very good news to me. Jeb always seemed more productive in Minecraft's development and now he's going for a mod api, something Notch never bothered with
Squeeeee! >3< We're finally getting mod API!
I can see what Notch means by Jeb being mod-friendly. I think the entire modding community just collectively awww'd when he said that there's no way in hell he [Jeb] can do as much to Minecraft as the internet can. Hehe :3
But this was already an idea fluffing about so i'm not surprised.
I'm glad Notch isn't full-on resigning from development on Minecraft though.
I completely agree, Notch was taking the game entirely somewhere else than what Minecraft fans were expecting next, if you listen to what Jeb has done for the game, Minecraft is only about to get better, and with him adding the modding API, it's just about to turn into a beautifully perfected community sandbox game.

RIP DRAGON JEB HATES DRAGONS SO THEY WILL BE PHAZED OUT
I'm not going to lie, if Jeb phases them out I'll be happy. Especially if he phases in more regular animals in existing biomes that are more realistic like crocodiles, lions, tigers, etc. No I don't want a mod for it but I am happy he's making mod support better. Also I hope Jeb adds more crafty type stuff for the work bench and redstone.
I'd rather like it if Notch still was the head developer since he created Minecraft, but whatever, the 2nd person I'd like to be the head developer was Jeb anyway, so grats Jeb, better do a good job.
