This would be great for people like Risugami and Eloraam who get 5 million downloads within 5.7281 femtoseconds of porting their mods to the newest version. Not so much for smaller, lesser known mods... . It would a much longer time to accumulate enough points to earn anything if your mods not as well known. But ill still try it .
I disagree. Look at all the different ways users can filter and search for mods. I think that will make it a lot easier to find and be found.

Does this mean that *soon* the Official Minecraft launcher will be able to directly access this site, download and install mods without users needing to know anything?
And if that can be done, it'd be a simple step to allow whole mod packs to be created, shared, and used that way. Anyone could make a mod pack with any mods on the site, and anyone could install it, and the mod authors will still get the credit/points they deserve for it.
I'm really excited about this! Will be uploading my mods sometime this weekend.
I'm not sure about this, I mean good modders already earn money from adfly.
So if there's not more money to earn from this,i guess there will only be small mods/trash
Don't forget that we build databases at CurseForge. Then on Curse.com you can filter and search for mods much, much easier. It's not always about money, making it easier for users to find mods is our priority. We just happen to reward mod authors for their hard work with our Author Rewards Program. But you are probably right in some ways. The big mods may not want to use our system because they may earn more money though Adfly. Though, nothing is stopping them from using our site as an alternative hosting platform, we do have nice tools to keep track of your change log and we implement well with dev sites like GitHub for pushing out updates and revisions.
Also, a big thanks to the 70 or so mods I approved today. We went from a database of about 50 Forge mods to over 120, in less than 12 hours to boot! So, THANKS!!!
I can now download mods without tunneling through monetized redirection sites, picking up the "malware du jour" on the way?
I no longer have to dress my browser up in every ad-blocking, script crushing, paysite skipping script imaginable?!
I can actually use chrome now?!?!?!
and the mod authors get stuff to boot?

What i find funny is that they decide to extend their reach to forge mods with the impending launch of 1.6, and later 1.7, which will end forge as we know it.

I want to believe it, but I don't think I can. Anything Mojang can do, the community can do better, and I think that adopting Forge AS the official API would be a better idea than creating a whole new one. I hope I'm wrong though.
I just remembered that there is a rule that prohibits making money off of mods, unless by donation. This doesn't seem like donation. Oh well. Seems neat.

I never really liked curse, honestly... But damn it, i love the dev.bukkit interface. Pretty slick and intuitive... And those categories, man.
Though I don't think many modders will use that. But it's a lot better than making and maintaining a MCF post.
Also, I assume mods will be hosted by Curse? That's really cool then, because I hate the slow Dropbox/Mediafire etc with 5-second timeouts. I know modders earn money for it, but still.
And now I have a hope so that in the future, Curse devours the MC client and allows distribution of hosted mods straight from it (one-click downloads, multiple DIY modpacks available, integrated server support (something like Realms), downloading of lacking mods to the clients...). That would be pretty awesome tbh.
It takes a long time for my updates to get approved. That's pretty annoying. Other than that, I love it.
Sorry! I'm the only one that approves them and I try not too work much on the weekends(I try and get away from my computer, if you can understand that ). Saturdays and Sundays I try and go through the list at least twice, once in the morning and once at night. But during the week I should be there checking them about once an hour from 9-5 central.

I might start learning how to make mods.

Hey everyone, I'm back!
Skylands, Survival, Creative, Player Towns, and much much more!
