Weird, with Optifine on minimum settings on a standard world in 1.6.2 I run 60-80 FPS. With no Optifine, minimum settings and on an Amplified world on the snapshot I still run 40-60 FPS. They must have done something to increase framerate significantly.

I don't think it affects fps. I think using amplified just makes chunks take longer to generate.
i really wanted to play on this snapshot and i followed these steps on how to get it
To get the snapshot, open your launcher and press the “New Profile” button. Call it “snapshots” and check the box saying “Enable experimental development snapshots”, and save. To switch to the normal version, you can select it in the dropdown at the bottom left corner of the launcher.
and i kept pressing play and it kept saying
"Logging in with username
Getting syncinfo for selected version
Queueing library & version downloads
An update to your launcher is available and is required to play 13w36b. Please restart your launcher."
does anyone know how to fix this?

Light travels faster than sound. This is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.
Been playing the snapshot a bit, and I've got the following to say:
1) This update is the best thing since Redstone and Minecarts.
2) Amplified looks like someone spilled a cup of "The Far Lands" on a copy of 1.7 (This update) that was already doing questionable substances.
3) I like amplified but it looks like it'll be a pain in the **** to travel in unless some form of air travel is created. (I'm not saying you should add anything like that though.)
4) I do hope they add a fish entity (Mob), even if it's just the item turned on it's side / made to point in it's direction of travel.
5) IF they add a fish entity, it should be slightly rare at shallow depths but more common at deeper depths. To add to that, you should be able to punch said mobs (with a chance of missing) to get the fish.

After flying around in creative for several hours in 4 different test worlds I have observed the following.
New biomes, I like them and the changes to the swamp biome.. its somehow swampier, however the "roofed forest" biome generates far more often then the standard forest. On several world gens I had to search for more than 10 min in creative before I found a chicken and 20 minutes before I found a single stand of suger cane. I don't think they are spawning in the new biomes. Also I had not found a village in any of the new biomes, has anyone found a village in one? If not it might be a bug.
As a side note; Anyone running a new server will run into trouble with the new biome distribution as players will be forced to explore way beyond normal ranges for things that used to be closer to spawn. I spawned in a plains biome and after an hour of flying gave up trying to find a desert or jungle biome. This situation will create huge loads on servers and reduce the possiblity of unexplored areas in which to find things added in future updates. This needs to be adjusted to smaller clusters of biomes to bring them closer.
In addition temples are currently only in desert and jungle biomes, given the new biome distribution, additional temples should be added, perhaps one for the spooky "roofed forest" biome in the form of an old keep (hint hint).
The new flowers, fishing additions and enchantments are a wonderfull addition and I love em, just wish a new plant or two had been added to the desert biome as well. And if your adding a new tree (Acacia) go all out with new textures for the trunk, leaves, planks, stairs, slabs and saplings please.
One last thing, I did not find any sign of the baked clay painted mesa biome that was hinted at, but when its added could you make baked clay blocks re-dyeable?
I like how biome generation makes more sense. For example, much less jungles running up into deserts.

95% of teens would scream if Justin Beiber was about to jump of the top of the Empire State Building. If you are in the 5% that would grab a seat and some popcorn and yell JUMP! JUMP! JUMP! post this into your sig.
I normally play vanilla 1.6.2 at 80 frames. On amplified i run at almost 300. What the crap?
Since amplified has a lot of holes and not much flat space, mobs are bound to spawn less.
Thus more fps ingame.
The more demanding part should be the world first generation.
It's demanding compared to non amplified biomes though

Double tapping 'W' still works.

o.o
I have no idea. But to me, it should be the other way around xD

Or just run around and paste vines on every rock surface you see and wait.

The fps counter might also be broken.
