Is anyone else having problems with texture packs. They are not showing up. I tried moving one into the new resource folder but it still doesn't show up.
unzip the texture packs then convert that and it should work
Pros I noticed:
Everything about the horses is cool - leads, armor, hay, name tags. Had a blast riding them around earlier.
Flew around to a few nether fortresses and the loots are very very good in most of them.
Resources packs and new hunger system are quite nice from what I can tell.
Neutral: I like the stained clay, but personally I think the "claylike-tinge" on the blocks is a bit weird, mainly considering white looks like pink and black looks like brown, etc. The block itself looks really nice, the colors will just need to be worked around slightly.
Cons:
Not too many, really. I personally am not a huge fan of the look of the launcher myself - its very bland feeling, like something you'd have seen in a computer program in the Windows XP type of graphics. Some of the features in it are cool, but aesthetic wise it could use some work.

Also, the charcoal retexture looks nice, and the coal block looks like it would be good to use as asphalt to make roadways in a town type build and such.
Overall, a great update!
When an area becomes more difficult from staying in it, will it go back to its default region difficulty if left? I don't like the idea of an other being super bad where I have a permanent residence.
I hate this update I get 9 fps on far whereas I would get 40 in 1.5.2 and lower... Thanks Mojang
Its quite possible that "Far" renders more chucks than 1.5.2. And with more mobs, and now horses, along with whatever else they added for that matter, could be more taxing on your system.
Although, I haven't tried 1.6 yet. Probably won't till mods like optifine gets added.
Updated with no problems! I maintain a steady 100 fps in "far" setting with graphics set to fancy. So the resource pack is the same thing as the texture pack? I think I messed that part of the update lol
I NEED HELP Mojang please whenever I try to press play on the new luncher it says this
Game ended with bad state (exit code 139)
Deleting /Users/spencer/Library/Application Support/minecraft/versions/1.6.1/1.6.1-natives-1372700123687408000
Please mojang help me

If you are running on Mac OS X 10.5.8 the new update is not working mojang recommends buy the upgrade to snow leopard 10.6
Any plans to make the launcher more prettier? Atm the design sucks, the older launcher was way better... now im forced to use that launcher for 1.6.1. Hope any coders on MCF can make a better launcher than mojang's one... looks like olde WinXP design in Java... sorry for this but it breaks all launchers I use, even the portable ones are broken :c

MagicLauncher is the best launcher I ever used! Hoping the developer would update for 1.13.x and 1.14.x
Seriously? lol. As an ex-server owner, I sure hope that they don't release a build for a couple weeks at least. I haven't followed bukkit since I stopped hosting the server about six months ago, but expect a month for a recommended build. I'd wait for the first recommended build to come out before trying out a dev version. Even then, plugins won't update till the recommended is released so about twoish months.
WOW, I boot up a new 1.6 world and find 3 desert temples, with saddle and horse armor and I just fly through the world, in fact it helped me find an awesome spot to build in. I do like the new update, very impressed. Now I need to make a castle town for villager peasants and a wall to protect them.

The launcher acts more as a client-side server, and afaik this hasn't been implemented yet. So any launchers will need to be updated/redesigned to utilize this new method. Lots of client changes, so don't expect anything from the modders for awhile.

EDIT: Thank you for the information. I think I will keep my old launcher.
Then stop playing MC on a toaster.
It goes back to 1.5.1 if you want.
