I get what you're saying but, are you not forgetting the fact that the reason these advanced Optifine specific features don't work yet is because this is a snapshot and the Optifine developer don't usually go out of his way to update for a snapshot, which by definition can change at any point before release?
If I installed a fresh 1.5.2, these features wouldn't work for me either, if I hadn't installed Optifine.
Once Optifine gets caught up, everything will be back to normal just like it is every time.
This is exactly the point I was making.
Everything probably will come back to normal "with time", but in the mean time I'm sitting on 1.8 GB in busted texture packs =(
And you can't envy the frustrating job of both texture pack artists and the teams behind Optifine and MCpatcher when their sand castle gets stomped down for, what, the third time now?
While those problems are being sorted out, I might wait out updating my client and my server to 1.6. Reasoning behind that? Mod devs and texture artists need time to make things happen, and Mojang doesn't seem to plan on giving them much time at all. This is especially noticeable since people are still rolling 1.4.7 because mods haven't even caught up to 1.5 and now we already have 1.6.
I'm not saying there isn't anything inherently WRONG with this, I'm just saying there must be a better way to approach this, right? Releasing snapshots earlier into the future (which I guess is the same as delaying updates, but that doesn't really "cost" them anything) and maybe taking a few of the most asked questions by modders concerning a particular feature(s) and whatnot? It just feels like there is a detach here.

I don't doubt that it's aggravating. I didn't mean to imply that the work of modders or texture artists is easy.
I just live in the hope that as the feature sets for the resource system and mod API becomes solidified, this will become less of a problem, as presumably the mod API (I am guessing) will be more backwards compatability friendly.
I am hoping that once the resource system is in place, it will be far enough along that they don't need to change the structure of everything yet another time, that it will finally be flexible enough to become the final design.
Like others have said, it's reasonable to believe that all this content is filling to pad out the game a bit, and give us something new until they are finally ready to release the API, at which point they can start slowing down development and let the community take it from there, so to speak, so hopefully modders and texture artists will not have to put up with... What, tri-monthly or so updates too much longer.
Well the made a huge Change from 1.2.5 to 1.3.1 to make it compatible with future updates and now the doing the same Thing with Texturepacks. Changing them in to Ressourcepacks so everybody can modify the game Content of Minecraft easier! Anyway does Grum suppose to be the new Herobrine? Because i still don't understand why he keeps appearing on the Screenshots?
Herobrine isn't real, and Grum is one of the Mojang staff, so no, he's not supposed to be the new Herobrine.
As for why he's photobombing every single shot, your guess is as good as anyone's.
Have the mojang team or Notch announced when the pre-release date is or the final release date because its mid June right now, and I think that goal has been passed
Sooooo are the minecraft forums gonna add a "Resource Pack" section? The sooner the better, cuz i wanna start preping for 1.6 and a new section would help.
Okay, so I understand the concept behind Resource Packs, however, if I am reading this right, you want to put both textures/sounds, and mods in the same pack right? Well, is that not going to make texture switching more of a pain in the you know what?
Think about it for a second:
Say our mystery player we will call Bob, plays on 3 servers with their own texture packs, he uses Optifine for CTM/better grass/reduce annoying particles, and Rei's Mini Map. Now one of these servers is a Tekkit server, which only needs the one mod added.
Would it not make more sense to have a Mod folder seperated from the resource packs folder for the more universal mods, so one does not have to install the mod on every texture pack they wish to use? I understand that most mods do not take more than 500kb, but it is still a hassle to jump through each texture pack to install a mod you wish to use universally, not to mantion, would not such a harsh code change, even to the same mod, not inflict errors on the system due to over-taxation of resources?
just saying...
EDIT: Oh yeah, and the wonder tool for converting my texture pack, doesn't work on any texture pack I use, or the one I created myself.
Week 25 doesn't start until tomorrow (Monday), so even if they released a snapshot today (Sunday) it wouldn't be 13w25a. Also, they almost always release on Thursday.
I would like to make a few points clear the resource pack does not interfere with mods it actually works with mods how does it do that it's due to the fact that they added API stuff to make resource packs work the pieces of the money PI they added in this snapshot are, texture API, sound API, animation API systems that allow mod blocks to function in the regular world is also works very well for textures as well so all those wanting the custom textures or sounds or any other sort of things it was all intentionally made for mods in mind for known as mod blocks only reasons why the mod API is not even getting started is simply because they haven't added all of it due to technical issues obviously don't too many issues with the 1.6 being buggies can be and not properly being reported upon. So just keep in mind the mod stuff will not being the same folder or location as the textures or resource pack folders may have separate locations for the mods already in the actual launcher information you actually looked loaded the launcher and London it actually still shows it all there the folders are already set up they just need the extra coding to be done. Once the mod block support goes in and the gue system that allows mod blocks the function then the mod API has it start.

Yes that would be a wide consumption to think the update would be this soon would be a far-fetched statement launchers not even ready the texture system is not been debugged and other things but this would make sense of the mod API was on scheduled for the summer solstice so not likely gonna be anytime soon to seeing anything relating to a release date of 1.6 this week or for another couple more weeks but definitely show signs of the mod API popping into the picture.
Has anyone figured out the folders and file names for resource packs you need? Because the converter doesn't create any new folders to get you started...

The things are just stuff they added to the game.
The stuff is just things they added too.
ps: You should put that "I am the guardian" thing in your signature.
