I joined in 1.2.5, summer 2012. First thing I ever built was a bunker in a hill next to a swamp, that had a diamond block entrance with a piston door, with bedrock and minecart tracks further in. I wish I'd kept the map around.
I was hoping for more IN-GAME features with 1.6, I keep forgetting that they're still adding the horses and all that stuff that were released at first. With all these bug fixes I couldn't keep track of what the heck was being added.
First things first; Anyone who spends that much time dissecting ONE PERSON'S opinion must be really, really lonely.
Two; I'm an amateur programmer. No mods or games or real work to speak of, but I know that coding is really hard, and debugging harder. It doesn't mean, however, jeb & co should waste time constantly adding in whatever 11 year old in a chat room says to add instead of working on bugs.
Three; The lighting bug? The one with all the annoying black spots? It's STILL THERE.
Four; Reduce lag? Where? I haven't seen any reduction of lag in SINGLE PLAYER.
Five; "If some people with silly accents in a youtube video tell you that it costs 1 hunger to regen each heart; they've extremely wrong.". Perhaps not an insult, per se, but still certainly taking a swing at a moderately famous youtuber for simply making a video on the "random unbalances" and saying that what was said is untrue, even though in the video, it's shown.
Six; New terrain gen should be a priority, considering the current system is horribly ugly.
Have I the right of an opinion? Yes, so why exactly did you waste your time trying to change it?
Mojang needs to get a real update, bug fixes in my opinion are cheating people of an update by not adding or changing anything, and they haven't added anything for many weeks now.

I too agree that bugs need to be fixed. But, at the same time think about the game from that perspective.
1.4 Bugfixes
1.5 More Bugfixes (still nothing new)
1.6 Still Working on Bugfixes (we'll give you new stuff to play with soon, I promise)
I have a feeling people would be complaining at least as much if the game had absolutely no new content until ALL bugs were squashed.
True, it may seem a bit slow to add just a few new features per update but at least that way people have new toys to play with while bugs are being fixed and/or worked on.

According to his post (and a few others I have read elsewhere). The lighting bug was fixed in a snapshot awhile back. However it lagged the game so horribly it was unusable and therefore removed. As such the bug you mentioned is still present. However, by removing the fix lag was also reduced.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I doubt that is the issue here. I believe that the issue stems from the fact that many people who play Minecraft feel that their opinion is the only way and that if Mojang doesn't do exactly what they want then the game is going in the wrong direction.
Minecraft is one of two games I play regularly. The other is Champions Online. In the forums for both games I see a fair amount of negativity based on development. In Champions it is somewhat justified whereas here it seems to be primarily for the reason I listed above.
Both groups complain about what has been added (or not) recently. In Champions the last real, permanent NEW content was added about a year ago. What has shown up in Minecraft in that amount of time?
Mojang regularly releases snapshots to allow players to try out new game features and tends to tweak features based upon input. Champions has a similar system in the form of a 'test server.' The point is obviously to make sure things do not break when pushed to live. However, player input seems to be regularly ignored and often players are given less than 24 hours to test the new features before they are pushed out to the live server.
Those are simply two examples. I have no desire to get involved in a war of "Why Minecraft sucks vs Mojang are gods and can do no wrong" I am just simply stating an opinion I have developed from looking at another game where customer input seems to mean next to nothing.

Jumping on the bandwagon here as I've seen quite a few of these.
I figured I'd score as either Rogue or Ranger as those are my favorite ways to play.
I was hoping this was the mob update. Nope! They just added horses and retarted resource packs. They should have an option where texture packs AND resource packs BOTH work! Now all site have to change from "texture pack" sites to "resource pack" sites, or just close. There goes MISA and all thing good! Thanks Mojang! (sarcasm)
Long life to MC 1.5.2 edition here, most mods will take at least 1 full yr to figure out how to program with the new 1.6 api, unless Forge manage to do a version for MC 1.6 we will be stuck with MC1.5.2 or forced to play Vanilla MC1.6 for a long time except for small mods like a map or NEI that shouldn't take too long to port I suppose, for the rest, if a version of BuildCraft or IC2 for MC 1.6 pop out before christmas, we will be extremely lucky. Let alone all the addons that goes with them... But wjem it will be done, that will be so awesome because once MC1.7 comes out, we shouldn't even need new updates for the mods according to Mojang at least.
There is a glitch in the new snapshot. When you try to break a block with a Sword in Creative, the block will not break. This is an odd glitch and really hope it is fixed.
I hope in 1.7 Mojang add new mobs...Like...Huum...Herobrine not a mod?
I think 1.7 is the "Nether Update" and it might have a chance of new mobs, I'm not sure, but I really think people should stop asking for Herobrine to be added into the game. Mojang will never add him.

This is a feature people have been requesting so that when they're killing mobs, they don't wreck the world if they misclick.
Well, if 1.6 is out soon, then this is a pretty boring update. However, I know that they have been working hard on the resource packs, so I will wait for 1.7 for more content.
Pretty boring? this update adds horses, hay bails and a bunch of other stuff. What are you talking about?
Got a game running in SP with all settings at minimum. The following is happening:
The Bad:
#1 villagers are falling into the blocks.
#2 the stars are still twitching
#3 blocks take about 1 second between the time you break them and when the resource shows up.
#4 The "new" day/night cycle command still doesn't work.
Before you flame me for not posting this on the bug website... take note that EVERY time I post something, they flag it as a copy (but there is none) and totally ignore it. They tell me it's a copy of some report, but every time I click the report, it sends me to a 403 page or something that loops me around to my original post.
The good:
#1 Horses are pretty...
#2 Waves of zombies at night are fun... Watch, they'll fix that "bug" before they fix anything that's seriously detrimental to game play. (see "The bad")
#3 There is nothing else "good" about the past few snapshots.... they will never get it together, since they already have our money. Who cares about the paid customers.

Same post as 25a I believe. Think it was released the same day or next day.

65 FPS in Hypixel's "Herobrine's Return", one of the larger maps out there. And snapshots always have less FPS than releases.
This is a feature people have been requesting so that when they're killing mobs, they don't wreck the world if they misclick.
