Well - Mo'Creatures had option to disable desirable animal. So I changed my opinion -- It would be kool to how horses and I could disable them if I want to -- Also bless Mo'Creatures creator for adding that mod to freaking MC - So kool lol
I personally would prefer better pig-riding mechanics, but the addition of horses wouldn't ruin my game. Anyway, I agree that there is probably more to this picture than the obvious horse. Might I remind you of the hatching chickens saying?

--- END ERROR REPORT 2dc29350 ----------
I actually agree with you. But I think some players may have the idea that the fact that all of these features are in Minecraft at all invalidates playing the game without using them, which is entirely untrue. Just because 1.5 introduced TNT Minecarts and Activator Rails doesn't mean you have to use them to mine, or use Hoppers to make some kind of storage organization machine. Nothing in the game forces you to do so. But at the same time, having the ability to do these things can make players feel left out if they don't want to go through the trouble. That might be what people are worried about with the introduction of horses: players might feel that if they don't use them, they won't be playing the game correctly, and may feel behind out for wanting to play without them.
Of course there is no "correct" way to play Minecraft. Like you said, the core concepts of the game still exist, and are just as fun without utilizing new features. People shouldn't feel forced to use them in gameplay if they don't want to.
I agree with you in that there's no "correct" way to play Minecraft. There are certainly things that you will ALWAYS do in a world (mining, crafting, killing mobs, and the like). However, the point that I'd like to put forward is that the new features that are being added don't build off of the core of the game, and frankly this needs to happen. Many parts of the game's "meat and potatoes" are severely lacking: for example, monster killing requires you to mash your left click at them, and little else. Additionally, many of the new features being added are in many cases too obscure to be worth putting into the game; while a few players will use TNT minecarts or flower pots, a staggeringly larger number of players would benefit from an improved engine, an improved terrain generator, and more fleshed out combat.
I'm gonna say the same thing I said earlier, the point of minecraft is still to mine, farm, build a house, and survive. You can still do those three basic things and not even touch redstone logic or horses. These features are not something you have to do but somethingyou can do. They're optional. That's the beauty of a sandbox game like minecraft, the features will never get in the way of the basic things that the game is all about.
And that's one reason Minecraft is so well loved. There is no wrong way to play the game, and no matter how many game changing updates there are, the principle of the game remains the same.
am I the only one who thinks this is foolish? theyre taking the same path that jagex took with RuneScape: Kept adding stupid stuff to a game that was already really successful and made it an awful game. With mojang adding all this crap (Wolves, horses, redstone update, etc) i fear this is going to happen...
yes, you are the only one who thinks it is foolish.
After thinking about it a little bit, I decided that horses wouldn't be that bad. I must embrace change, yes? I admit that they probably will make the game better and more fun even. I just hope the horses don't look the way they did in the 2.0 April Fools thing, because then I'll take the horses as more of a joke and ignore them. Adding more animals to Minecraft is good because it makes the game more lively and interesting. I personally would like to see the addition of new aquatic/marine life into the game, especially plants, and the full implementation of the sponge block.
In a sense, I agree with JoeTheCat. I mean, Minecraft is a fantastic game. It's completely unique and fun for all ages. It has millions of players worldwide. The whole concept is genius. I am a major Minecraft fan and I am totally happy that Minecraft has encountered such big milestone: 10 MILLION USERS! But, if Mojang gets to cocky with the whole thing and figures that Minecraft is so great that nobody will ever stop playing, they might add all these ridiculous things that they think players will enjoy, but really it takes away from the game. Sure, the redstone update added some neat stuff, but I find that some things were just un-needed, such as the daylight sensors or hoppers (athough they are cool). I also find that the more they update, they just push things a little farther by adding certain stuff that is starting to not look like a block at all. See what I mean? I think horses are neat and I am looking forward to seeing them in-game, but after that, I think that's where I draw the line for un-needed/ridiculous input from the makers of Minecraft. The game is great as-is, and I always look forward to an update, but if the game gets too mythical and unrealistic, at some point it won't even be enjoyable. So, what I say to Mojang is: add useful stuff that actually goes with the game and doesn't make it feel like a whole other thing, or add nothing at all.
This is just my opinion, please no negative comments.
@Beccyboo101 What you said pretty much sums up my opinion on the matter. Like I've stated previously, a suggestion for Mojang is to rather than add in unnecessary and frankly badly fleshed out features (think flower pots and TNT minecarts), instead work on improving what is consistently used in the game. A revamped combat system would enhance the everyday experience of Minecraft on so many levels, but adding in horses would have a far smaller and less relevant effect.

Horses are redundant, since we can already ride pigs. On the other hand, I'd really like to see infinite height in this update. If not this one, then I don't know when.
Infinite HEIGHT is probably not gonna happen any time in the next handful of updates. Mainly because an infinite height world would break minecraft's limits. You have to remember MC is run off of Java and I don't think MC or Java would be able to handle an infinte height world. And by infinite I hope you mean MC's capactiy of 3 million that is called infinte. If you mean the 3 million as infinite your pretty much saying MC is just one giant block.
u have got to be kidding me 1.6 NYOOOOOOOOOO I am working on a mod and now I have to update it again (I started in 1.4.7) now this is torture GRRRRR Nah I'm fine if I need to update my mod I WILL
I think you'll have plenty of time since the average time in between major updates (where the middle number changes. Ex: 1.1.1 to 1.2.1) is about 3 months.
I think horses are going to be a great addition, and in my opinion the only thing that minecraft updated that affected everyone was the way the food system changed. everything else is optional for everyone that plays, and if you don't like any of the features you don't need to use them. The Mod API is the only thing that I would love for them to do. I would be very ok with them holding everything and getting the Mod API done, but horses seem like a great addition that I can ignore all I want

Yes the food especially since the new golden carrots and poisons those are extremely under par from before though a saddle that is controllable is the main goal I hope happening.
Kind of mainstream... 'Mo Creatures horse is really good though, I got way to used to it and I feel really attached. But... couldn't put anything in there that wouldn't be obvious, hm?

Wibbly-wobbly.... timey-wimey.

Well, I don't think it's foolish, but I think it might be getting a tad out of hand..

Saddles already have a crafting recipe, it's just that it's not implemented.
