am I the only one who thinks this is foolish? theyre taking the same path that jagex took with RuneScape: Kept adding stupid stuff to a game that was already really successful and made it an awful game. With mojang adding all this crap (Wolves, horses, redstone update, etc) i fear this is going to happen...
Well, first off, that is your opinion. Second, maybe this is what Mojang wants from the game. Maybe they want the ability to ride horses. Isn't what Mojang wants really what counts? It is their game, after all, and they don't have to listen to their players. Finally, maybe this is what the community wants as well. After all, mo' creatures, a mod that adds horses to the game, is an extremely successful mod, and Mojang has been known to take mods that are extremely successful (pistons comes to mind, as well as improved mine carts, rails, redstone logic, weather, and a wealth of other features) and put them in the vanilla. It's quite obvious that this is what the majority of the community wants and if you don't like that, then you can either deal with it or code your own version of the game to your liking.

Well I don't think those are y crap and plus my favorite subject in minecraft is redstone and the redstone update what adds the best redstone stuff
Guys horses should have horse meat, It's tasty and we eat it every Friday night, plus horse slaughter is legal in 9 out of 50 of the states. I love horse meat... It should be added into the game
Dude, calm down. They're just expressing their opinions. Personally, I like the innovation we've been seeing with Minecraft recently. I think the Redstone Update added a lot more complexity and optionality for mapmakers, and made a lot of new mechanical creations possible in Vanilla Minecraft. Such creations as Herobrine's Return would not be possible without it, in fact, and I find it fun to learn how I can manipulate these features to improve my maps and builds.
However, I can see why people would be against this. Minecraft was originally known for its simplicity; players could just mine for materials, raise farms and build structures, and for a lot of people that was enough. In fact, that was what initially attracted me to the game. Comparators, command blocks, beacons, fireworks, and all the new redstone mechanics made what was originally a very simple game much more intricate, and it can be difficult to memorize all of those mechanics and crafting recipes.
So while I think all the new inclusions and complexity are beneficial for Minecraft, it is easy to see why they may not be for some players. They aren't "idiots" just because they want Minecraft to be more straightforward.
While I do see your point here, I'd like to point out that none of these intricate features must absolutely be learned in order to get what you want out of minecraft. You don't absolutely need to learn redstone logic to do what the players you talk about want to do. Minecraft is still straight forward. Building a house, mining, and farming, are all still at the core of the game and can be done without even getting into redstone logic, monster grinders, or making adventure maps. Mojang has done a wonderful thing by making the game so that the more complex stuff is like a side thing you do only if you absolutely want to.

Yes best idea since wolves for wolf armies This will give minecraft a cowboy feel. It already gives you a sense of farmers miners engineers explorers fisherman hunters cavemen 1200's castle knights and yes now finally cowboys what can u not do in minecraft? Don't answer that question cuz ain't nobody got time for that.
Guys, in my opinion, I loved the good old days. Previous to update beta 1.7.1, the point of MINEcraft was to actually mine. I'm not going to lie, I don't really like how complicated some of the new features are. I enjoyed actually being able to remember all the crafting recipes. At first I was a little opposed to potions and enchanting and even the redstone update. But I learned to get along with it. But horses, really? Can't you just leave it in some part of the .jar file to make them optional? Someone should make a mod like the nostalgia mod. Something that takes you back to the good old days....
I'm gonna say the same thing I said earlier, the point of minecraft is still to mine, farm, build a house, and survive. You can still do those three basic things and not even touch redstone logic or horses. These features are not something you have to do but somethingyou can do. They're optional. That's the beauty of a sandbox game like minecraft, the features will never get in the way of the basic things that the game is all about.

I'm tired of all these people thinking that the new updates are gonna kill Minecraft. I've been here since Minecraft was around 3 million sales and there were people just like you it has lasted well over a year and triple the amount of sales since then so your logic is nonsensical. Might I add that wolves are old and nobody complains, Horses will be amazing if Mojang makes them right (which I trust they will) and the Redstone Update made redstone easier more expansive and gave some actual uses for it while playing survival mode.

I actually agree with you. But I think some players may have the idea that the fact that all of these features are in Minecraft at all invalidates playing the game without using them, which is entirely untrue. Just because 1.5 introduced TNT Minecarts and Activator Rails doesn't mean you have to use them to mine, or use Hoppers to make some kind of storage organization machine. Nothing in the game forces you to do so. But at the same time, having the ability to do these things can make players feel left out if they don't want to go through the trouble. That might be what people are worried about with the introduction of horses: players might feel that if they don't use them, they won't be playing the game correctly, and may feel behind out for wanting to play without them.
Of course there is no "correct" way to play Minecraft. Like you said, the core concepts of the game still exist, and are just as fun without utilizing new features. People shouldn't feel forced to use them in gameplay if they don't want to.
It would be interesting if you could put satchels (Probably chests) on the sides of a tamed and saddled horse to store items you collect on adventures.

This would make them useful.
Too useful.
Mojang will never implement.

Except DrZhark is helping, and his version of horses actually can do this, AND the image of a horse Jeb posted looked EXACTLY like a Mo'Creatures horse.
So I wouldn't say they would never do it.
I really like to think that there's more to this picture than the horse. Seriously guys, hasn't Jeb already tried posting cryptic pictures to reveal upcoming features in the past before? Can this picture be possibly one of those?
well I looked at the hex code of the pic and I found a tag saying Paint.net meaning it was edited in someway.
But I am sure there is some hidden stuff or the ACTUAL new feature is something like the small rocks.
