If you can still craft horse armor then you haven't applied the new snapshot correctly.
I had an idea if balance is the issue.
Just require some component in the recipe from the Nether or End. I mean you could make it so the armor requires multiple stages to assemble. Take leather cured with a netherwart concoction, then use the "Cured" leather for the saddle and for the padding in the horse armor recipe. Frankly I always felt that all of the armors higher than leather should have some form of special requirement, and that most recipes should be in stages.
So, now there's going to be an Ore Block for every kind of Ore? I think the Coal Block would replace Obsidian in builds, but that's what I think. I'm not much of a builder myself.
Am I stupid? I actually don't know what a coal block would do...
Other than using them in builds, it's a more efficient way to store Coal, like an Iron Block is a more efficient way to store Iron, a Redstone Block is a more efficient way to store Redstone, and so on.
ok, I don't mind that the coal block burns more than a stack, thats great... but... multiples of 9? 81 blocks instead of 72? my OCD can't handle that... MULTIPLES OF 8 PLEASE! Also it OP's the coal block making it burn 9 more items than burning with 9 pieces of coal seperatly.
Codes exist for them and they can be spawned with third party programs, but they don't spawn naturally yet.
Also, removing textures =/= extra coding. There are textures in the jar. Odds are, they are simply incomplete and will be added at some point soon, so in the meantime they disabled natural spawning. In fact, undead horses can already carry chests, in some fashion, according to Minecraft Wiki.
I can see it now a mod that adds undead horses with zombie riding them

Coal blocks I would just mainly use for like decoration in mineshafts and maybe some carpet in a haunted house. Mainly for "Spooky" decoration.
I can change from 1.5.1 to the latest snapshot without changing clients. I pretty much stopped using the old launcher when the new one came out.
