The villages worry me a lot. I am really concerned about the impact that friendly NPCs and pre-built modern structures will have on the games mood. The ruins are truly wonderful and will add to the mystery, the villages risk breaking that magic of being alone in a beautiful, lonely, hostile world that is yours for the taking. I'm struggling to explain my point, but I hope that I'm not alone in thinking this.
I trust Notch knows what he's doing but it'd be a shame to lose the atmosphere that made minecraft so special to me in the first place.
I personally plan to go viking on these villages and go on holy crusades against villages, pillaging them and taking residency in their dwellings as I attack the next village!
I hope they have a ranking system, so you can kill their kings!
hm........do you guys think that the npc houses are maybe basically dungeons with npc mob spawners? mossy cobblestone as the base......and that way if you attack they would keep on coming until u found a way to either destroy the spawner or negate it.
Could that be a ground-level ravine in the lower right corner. I hope those villagers (whoever they might be) don't touch the sand. ;-)
Also... there is a single weird sandblock visible. It appears to be only a1/4 block tall. It is right next to the sandstone blocks and the ravine/cove opening.
And the huge brown mushroon definately needs a second top-layer. Looks way too artificial now.
What you're seeing is the overlapping of sandstone by the row of sand/sandstone in front of it. :wink.gif:
Those mushrooms are ridiculously dumb looking.
Is it just me, or does it look like sand is given a new texture? Maybe my eyes are playing tricks on me because it looks like sand tiles differently.
Meh, I don't really want NPC villages, I want to think that steve is a survivor of some disaster that recreated the world No but really, I think the villages will only bother me... Ruins look cool
Yep, there's definitely a gate coming. Also, if no one else has noticed, there now seem to be THREE stone brick textures-- regular, mossy, and cracked. Very excited about the ruins.
The giant mushrooms (or what appear to be giant mushrooms) are very disturbing, however. I'm thinking FAERIE VILLAGE, and I don't want faerie villages in my game. >:C

And in three varieties too!
I hope these ruins have unique, deadly mobs in them.
You can turn the NPC off...
WITH A COUPLE SLASHES OF YOUR BLADE!

I mean, sure the world generation is updated and all, but I don't like the thought that the villages could be taking up valuable space. And resources.
Except it will be fun taking a flint and steel to their homes!
Kerbals, kerbals, everywhere, where they stop, I don't care!Kerbal Space Program

Oh Notch, what have you done..
