Oh I see within the next 10-20 years this game will be the best selling Mac, Microsoft (etc.), Sony (etc.), and Nintendo game ever. This game is going somewhere and I have more then 100 ideas on my Mac for future Minecraft updates (cry) AND THIS IS ONE OF THEM!!! .........(hopefully) Nice job Notch!
I haven't heard of this "Minecraft: Source" either. Perhaps they're referring to the source code? Now, to enjoy the 1.6 features until 1.7 comes out (which may be awhile, and I'm out of building ideas.)
This doesn't necessarily mean adventure mode. "X", from X's Adventures in Minecraft, posted on his blog a long analysis on how Minecraft needed more adventure elements. Notch acknowledged this, and might just be adding some features suggested in this post.
Have to agree with those few who have said Notch should be careful here. As it is, Minecraft is already an award-winning formula, to coin a phrase. Just look at how well it's sold.. and it's not even finished.
The more Notch messes with the Minecraft formula the greater the chance he has of damaging the award-winning aspect of it. Too many times have I seen some developer ruin a top-notch product by changing it. Just look at the first two Deux Ex games and how each game was recieved by the public. The reason for any change is completely irrelevant. What matters most is the end result and the final product.
Not saying he shouldn't do an adventure aspect.. quite the opposite (it's not like anything's going to stop him anyway). I would **** a brick out of joy if Minecraft had character classes, weapon skills and maybe other things similar to games like ADOM that have obviously influenced Notch.
Only reason why I'm saying any of this is because when I read Notch's design philosophy for Minecraft, I get the feeling that it turned out different from what he originally intended. Just saying he needs to be rather careful not to change too much of what Minecraft already is.
Does anyone know anything about what kind of adventures we are talking about here?
I don't think minecraft should have an adventuremode where you can only explore the lands.
But maybe a mode where you have to travel a large distance from point A to point B would be fun?
This way you can't build permanent shelters you need to keep moving maybe even sometimes during nights and you have to calculate how much time it's worth to spend on mining instead of walking.
E3? Summer holidays?! WHAT?! Are you kidding me?! At least I can actually download mods without the game updates just pouring in thanks to the impatience of the forum members, but if this is going to take the ENTIRE SUMMER, I will just crap my pants! If it indeed is going to take that long, I do hope it is something useful, not crap like redstone additions or stupid beverages like wine and beer... Well, wine could be possible, but it only could bad things to you, so no thank you.
tl;dr: Adventure Mode, if it even is a new mode, better be good.
