I wonder what would happen if you fell off an island in the sky dimension... Would you die, like you fell into the Void, or would youreturn to the overworld and fall to your death?
Maybe the sky dimension would be the same, but with more common ores and things, so the real danger, like lava in the nether, would be falling off an island.
I'm imagining a floating island made of sand with diamond in the center:
I think it would be cool if there was reduced gravity in the sky dimension. You would be able to jump up 2 blocks at a time instead of only 1. Oh, and fall damage would be slightly reduced.

Your deleted worlds go straight to Notch where he can lulz at your failing attempt to play Minecraft.
yes just like all the others said "the aether" still looks better
but this is still in an early stage and it will be pretty better when finished , i hope...
Notch has his own ideas - i am sure neither team would like to be forced to work on each other's projects. The two dimensions can co-exist since they are very different, both in content and aesthetics.
... Aether much, if you did this before actually knowing about the Aether let me ask this Notch: Would you be wiling to drop this and just implement a finished Aether mod instead of this. I mean, c'mon it just looks like a normal land just in the sky, but a whole entire new Realm would be cool, So Notch would you plz do this for us?
I think the whole "heavenly" aether mod thing sux.. i would rather have this just as a new dimension for maybe some flying mobs like dragons, phoenix's, ect. that would be so much better then the aether mod.
hmmmmmm this would be cool if you didn't have to use a portal and it raises the height limit for the sky dimension!but ya this looks a lot like the aether mod but what would happen to mobs cause they just walk around aimlessly. they fall into holes in the normal world anyways!
Early this morning Notch shared a brief preview of a new "sky dimension" that he worked on a bit last night. The new dimension looks to be a series of floating islands. While this was something Notch was probably just toying around with initially -- or joking about -- it looks like thanks to PC Gamer's quick reporting of the tweet, he's now decided to finish it.
No other details are known about when this new sky dimension will make its way to Minecraft, but check out the screenshots below.

What i could see this as is an increse in the virtical highth limit and adding a layer of sky islands
"in the event of a root uprising i would support the robots, does that make me a bad person?"
I hope it gets released soon, waiting forward to it.
