Well it's pretty obvious Mojang either doesn't care one bit about their modding community or they're so disconnected from the modding community it's almost the same thing.. Did there really need to be another update for 3 bloody items??? Unless this bug-fix list is big.. WHY? You couldn't have folded these three items into 1.5???
Whatever... I wouldn't want to be around mod makers with this news.
I think the fact that they keep wasting their time on more and more BS added to the game instead of making a modding API so the mod makers can add those things (and more) themselves (not to mention Mojang could use the API to make their own mods for whatever they want to put out) makes me think they long ago lost all touch with the modding community. Mojang should have had a modding aPI done at official release considering how critical it is to the game.
Instead of adding useless stuff like fireworks I think their time could be better spent working on things like the mod API or improving terrain generation (which is the biggest problem with the game right now, IMO). I could live without any nifty new items for a while if I thought they were working on improving what we already had.
There are (at least) two groups of people working on Minecraft in Mojang. More likely there are 3 or more, but in very general terms, there are the guys working on the API, and the guys NOT working on the API.
This update is coming from the guys NOT working on the API. Putting them on the API team would NOT help get the API out faster. In fact, it would likely make it take longer because the people currently working on the API would have to STOP WORKING ON IT to TEACH THEM what they needed to know in order to work on it.
So, in short, the addition of fireworks, or bats, or carrots on sticks, or bug fixes, or ANYTHING content related has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with how long the API is going to take. Period. So blow off your fireworks and let Mojang manage their company the way they want. Trust me, they know more about it than you do.

I'm sorry, but as a server owner, these CONSTANT "patches/updates" are beginning to be really frustrating. A long time ago, you prmoised a new API... its still not here even though you promise it now in January. Fireworks? Really? Plugins are constantly going out of date because the modders can't keep up. Bukkit has been sitting at beta for WEEKS now and refuses to update to a recommended build because of all these changes you guys are making. Hell, mods like silk spawners/spawner adjuster are producing endless pig spawners, and the only thing I can do is turn them off, frustrating my server community. If I leave them on, players have an endless supply of free food.
I can't keep installing the dev builds, because (understandably) the modders can't keep up with all the changes.
But no, we're going to have FIREWORKS (yay!!! - notice the sarcasm?) and some more bug fixes? Are you ever going to fix the lighting glitches where all the signs are eternally covered in shadows unless you're positioned EXACTLY RIGHT? You promised a fix to that long ago too!
I've been playing since Alpha, have been running a server for almost a year, and I gotta say, this is a HORRIBLE way to run a software company! Instead of doing all these stupid "updates," why not get your act together and either impliment the API NOW or stop with all these changes!!!!
But no, the kiddies on these forums are so happy to have FIREWORKS that you'll just go ahead and ignore the rest of the community. SHEESH! Yes, I'm angry and frustrated. Can you really blame me?
They could have waited yes but as stated they wanted us to have at least some of the items before new year.
Your attitude needs a little work imo, if it bothers you that much dont update and wait for jan/feb 1.5
The vast majority of us actually appreciate what the people at Mojang are doing.
You obviously do NOT run a server. If you did, you'd know that EVERYONE updates their minecraft as soon as an update comes out, droppig server activity to almost NILL. This is frustrating for both owners and players who can't log on to play. Yes, we ALL remind them not to update right away, but for the most part, the payers are too "excited" to wait. You sir, are the one who needs an attitude adjustment!

Well, there is such a thing as a wrong opinion.
It is not your "opinion" that those people don't care about the gameplay. I for one think fireworks are a neat addition, and they've actually put quite a bit of thought into it. Does that mean I don't care about things like lighting glitches, the Mod API, and new updates that actually fundamentally change the gameplay? Of course not! I'm quite looking forward to all of those.
2. API is also in 1.5 build set to release jan/feb
This is not true. 1.5 is the "Redstone update" and will not have the API. The API will come out some time in the nebulous future AFTER 1.5 comes out. They have NOT said a release date for it. At Minecon, they had a panel on it and I watched the whole thing (even the stupid questions people asked after the main discussion). At no point did they say how far along they were or when it would be complete.
FIREWORKS!!! i am going to make a hard adventure map that when you finish...you trigger a presser plate and will fire off fireworks into the sky and be awsome with creeper epicness!

That said, the fireworks do look pretty cool.

I thought you couldn't break bedrock!
No that is just people who don't care about actual gameplay.
I will be skipping this~
So you're saying that because people might want to set off fireworks on occasion it means they don't care about actual gameplay?
lol.
Why do I even come to these forums?
Just my opinion
