Minecraft, you disappoint me. You're going to . All these stupid updates that don't add anything but break mods. DO YOUR JOB AND MAKE SURE TO BUG TEST BEFORE RELEASING .
"papa, what are content updates?"
"Son, they are something we had long ago. I understand all you young folk get are bug fixes nowadays, but back when they actually release content... it was beautiful..."
This is the sorriest topic I've ever seen. Most of the people who've posted here should be ashamed of themselves. If Mojang wasn't providing bug fixes you'd all be complaining still. This is a pre-release anyways, as was 1.4.3 and 1.4.0, and I think 1.4.1. You don't have to download it, and instead can wait to see if anymore bugs need to be ironed out before 1.4's fully polished release. Use a little sense, people.

They are doing their jobs. As well as bug testing themelves, they are providing OPTIONAL prereleases for those who wish to help bug test for the official release.
"Strong Pokémon. Weak Pokémon. That is only the selfish perception of people. Truly skilled Trainers should try to win with the Pokémon they love best."

these snapshopts/prereleases are for bug fixing. Which is why they are not being released as a official update. If you want mods, dont download these optional downloads as they are purely meant for bug fixing/modders to get ready for the next release. These are not stupid updates as they are vital towards getting bugs fixed/tested not for normal use.
This is getting very annoying, this bug tracker is proving to be a bit of a pain not an enhancement
Like haigh, I prefer a bug reporting thread over tiny bug fixing updates coming out almost every week.... Drives modders crazy. And I can see that people with my view are just going to be abused, flamed and shunned like the people who dislike new content in the snapshots...
To all of you people who think Notch is still working on the game, he stopped working on Minecraft in late 2011. Get your facts straight and stop spamming his twitter about Minecraft updates.

How does it hurt mod developers? Its not a official release. These are "optional downloads". They are not forcing you to update. I personally think its better this way so that people can find the different bugs rather than a update come out that has missed bugs that the developers did not find on their own time. :/
See, the thing is, before we were in a drought, bug-fix wise, but now we are drowning, this, in and of itself, isn't bad, but: they could be releasing these as snapshots, then they would be optional, but as it is I have little choice, I play on a few servers: Salvage Raid, Diamcraft and a non-pvp one, and they all updated within a day or two of 1.4.4 being released, so I can't just not update, I can swap jars, but that is hardly the greatest option. Now, if they were to release all this in snapshot... They would still get bug reports and the SMP and mod players could all just stick with 1.4.2 or whatever, but no, they decide to release them as pre-releases, so that people expect mods and servers to update.
That being said; why can't they do snapshots instead? Then they would be fixing bugs without "updating"
I can swap jars, but that is hardly the greatest option.
If you use mods but don't use the Magic Launcher (or something similar) you're just asking for all that work. I swap jars daily. Hourly, even. Takes like 3 clicks.
I'm sure I'm not the first to say this, but most of the Mod-Makers in the community must be Flipping Tables and drop-kicking their desktops with all the updates lately. XD
I am, I updated to 1.4.4 the day it came out and then boom, 1.4.5 snapshot next day.
You, Sir, have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.
Trying to talk smart like that doesn't work. For one, you have no proof I don't know what I'm talking about.
As a matter of fact, I have never encountered ANY game crashing bugs, not matter how much I even try to get them. All these updates are stopping modders from making their great creations, and, it also show's that mojang arn't testing their versions properly. If they were, then there would be absolutely no need for all of these updates.

You seem to be forgetting this is a PRE-RELEASE. That means the main game WILL be updated very soon. If it were a SNAPSHOT, then it would be completely optional and wouldn't affect mods in the slightest.
I was not aware that Jeb comes to your house, puts a pistol to your head, and forces you to download the update.
If you must keep playing with your mods, don't update. If the servers you're playing on update, update with them.
Oh, you don't say? I'm not talking about PLAYING with mods, I'm talking about the effort the mod makers go through to keep up with the game. How about you open your mind a little and think things through.
I'm not complaining about the bug fixes in the slightest, but the constant updates to the main game make it extreamly difficult to use and keep up with, especially for mod makers.
I can see it both ways. 1.4.2 had some lethal bugs in it, bugs bad enough to merit a rushed fix, 1.4.3. But then in 1.4.3 water currents were broken, so 1.4.4. Now 1.4.5 because of the LAN issues and torches... it's just a bad situation all around, and it's all because they pushed for a pre-Halloween release. As hard as I try, looking back I can't see any way they could have handled it better other than either causing fewer bugs to start with, or forgoing the whole "spooky" theme for 1.4 entirely.

Well, I don't think this update will break mods , though. It's pretty minor.

Same here. There goes my weekend of pretending to bond with my children by playing Minecraft.
Now we might even have to go outside...

that seems kind of urgent. >.>
What's the issue ID for it at mojang.atlassian.net? I can't find it. I am of course assuming that because it's so urgent, you submitted it.
