All I care about is being able to pause my Single Player. Otherwise, go for it. I'm too scared to download the latest snapshot just because it won't pause. That's a major thing for me. People need to be able to pause to go tinkle, eat, take care of children trying to maim each other, etc. Also, I pause when going to check the wiki. I don't wanna have to disconnect from the game every time I wanna do something like that.
umm i dont have a video but i cant enchant anything i place down the table put bookshelfs around and even spawned myself more than 50 levels of xp but when i open the table and place in an item nothing happens
Ragers... why just be quiet? Anyway, it's the first time Mojang actually done this. They mention it's easier for modders, beside, it's only one whole set. Who knows? More Mods for Multiplayer. This what I actually want to see, I hate the limitation of mods not being on multiplayer, just singleplayer support.
This what Mojang CAN do. For Singleplayer, it still be SMP Cross-support, but it should have the option to completely pause or unpause. Second of all, it makes more of a live playthrough instead of something freezing in the background. Like for example, you placed a sign down, typing something randomly in there. A creeper can creep up behind you. This makes the game more into live. Singleplayer should be like this anyway.
To the ragers who complains, this is just SIMPLE. Just go to main menu and considerably be paused. There, problem solved.
Anyway, yeah. Don't know how I should exactly explain this.
To all the complainers-ever heard of MC Pocket Edition? Mojang is trying to make SSP work like PE, where both single player and a server are running. And remember, THIS IS A ****ING SNAPSHOT, NOT 1.3!
What this needs now is a "Server is Visible/Invisible" button, like PE.
Are you sure? Official updates should NOT be used for "tests." Mojang is smart enough to know this, ever wondered why this snapshot isn't called 1.3?
Although this is a snapshot, it doesn't mean that it wouldn't happen in 1.3. If you think that we can do nothing and take it for granted that mojang will not implement this in 1.3. as you have just mentioned, this is a snapshot and it is suppose for us to test. For the test to be successful, we need to tell them our feelings and opinions about it. If you want everyone to shut up because you think that mojang can how to read our mind, they wouldn't need to have snapshots.
Considering how quickly Jeb and his team have been squishing out the bugs and whatnot, anyone that is claiming this will make the game even laggier should kindly put their money where their mouth is.
I havn't tested the snapshot personally, I think its cool how theres the hardcore and recommened texture pack for multiplayer. However I think that the new feature for making servers, without a server is nice because you'll wont need programs like LogMeInHamchi or port fording. However I do believe that Mojang will change the single player feature for multiplayer. [if that made any since what so ever] But I think we should just leave the work for Minecraft in the hands of Mojang, they know what there doing, and I am sure Jeb_ will do his best for everyone.
Also if you guys are complaining about your minecrafts being ruined, thats your fault, they had said there were lots of bugs. Thats why there's people like Antvenom, Captiansparklez, and the Yogscast to watch them do it.
Thats why I dont do snapshots, I just wait till the update comes out, its easier for everyone.
I hope that Mojang can manage to work out all the lag from multiplayer, making both an equally enjoyable experience. Combining SSP and SMP was a bold move, but I really think it will pay off in the long run.
Since there is alot of dislikes and alot of likes a suggestion could be that when you download the client of it you have the choice to have ssp or not have it i dont know how this would work but you can only connect to ssp if you have it in your client but like i said i have no idea how they would make this work
What also strikes me as funny is how all the raging naysayers use short sentences riddled with bad grammar to get their point across.
where as the people who favor this development seem to actually know what they are talking about and use correct spelling to do so.
Hmmmm.... i hop eh dont shpell nopen wong. dat hould beh ba...

i think he means: I HATE THIS IDEA i mean this is the game i play when theres no internet and now ssp is going to smp which NEEDS INTERNET THIS SUCKS!!!
The thing is, running a server uses up resources, lots of resources, running Minecraft uses tonnes of resources also. A lot of people back in the day, bought minecraft because it wasn't the most resource intensive game on the market, and it was actually pretty fun. Now, Minecraft is ridiculously resource intensive, and its just getting worse. People who used to run it like a charm, are now struggling to run it even with optifine and the like. Yes, this push helps make the code base more unified, and does help make the modding API easier to impliment, and I realise that it is just a snapshot, but I highly doubt people will take a hit to their ability to play vanilla just for an API.
Like a lot of people said, allowing for worlds to be either Singleplayer, or Singleplayer+ would be a good move. Unifying the codebase, while simultaniously making sure that people who want to have the multiplayer function in their singleplayer games can get it, but also allowing people with less up-to-date/weaker systems to still be able to run the game.
I guess, what I am saying, is the same thing I say to a lot of companies, give us options. If giving us the option cannot be done, I am sure the mod-lovers, and mod-makers can cope the old fashioned way.
But where is the reason to unify the code-base if you still have to maintain two of them? No, just keep the server and optimize it further, that's all one can do and definitely the right decision.
People, you are not forced to upgrade.
I did not mean to keep the two code bases, I meant that there should be an option which just turns servermode on/off, if possible. I wonder how much room there is for optimization... Some things can only go so far, there's still the chance for it to do a lot of good, I have doubts, but its possible!
I am also greatly offput by your large, bolded text. It seems like you are shouting, this isn't a contest of lungs. Let's try and keep things civil, no need to shout.
People just be quite its a snapshot. Its not the end of the flippin world. Its not the official update you have to remember that. To all of those people who are thinking "oh im going to quit minecraft because of this!" Shows how much you really care about the game and you were never trully a minecrafter after all. Get a grip of yourselves and just wait it out.
Ok, this is just wrong. No one is going to update until there is one update that brings back singleplayer again. Nice going Mojang. This better not happen, or you actually might lose money.
You going to demand your money back in a grand spectacle of might? Your logic seems flawed somehow.
I hope that Mojang can manage to work out all the lag from multiplayer, making both an equally enjoyable experience. Combining SSP and SMP was a bold move, but I really think it will pay off in the long run.
This is the most worthwhile thing anyone has said here.

OMG, again, you will have SSP. Seriously, Mojang, get someone in here to explain this to the drooling apes who seem to think the world is crumbling around them.
Right now: You have a game client. You have a server client. Each runs separately, using it's own set of resources. It's a tedious process. What Mojang is doing is combining them into one application. You start a world, it runs on its own little mini-"server" (Just like it does anyway, you just don't know it), and you get to play on it all by your happy self. If you want it to be a multi-player world, you simply invite your friends to it. No more annoying extra setup in the separate server client, because it's all built in. Random people aren't going to appear and destroy everything in your private world, and you will be able to invite whoever you want, and block the rest out. I don't understand how hard this is to comprehend. I don't know who decided that single player was being tossed out like yesterday's old soup. I don't know why no one stops for 5 minutes to think and go, "OH, that's all it is. Nothing at all". But no, you come here pissed off about something that, from what I read in these posts, you don't seem to understand at all, and you rage, and you rage, and all the while the people that keep telling you exactly what is going on are being ignored, or you call us stupid suck-ups or fanboys or some other crap. Well have fun being pissed off about nothing, and I hope you feel like an idiot when this all goes through and you find out acting like a 4 year old makes people disrespect you. And for you people that have this "Pure single player" mentality... seriously, I think something got slipped into your drinking water.
Stop screaming about how the snapshot broken. It's a testbed so it can be corrected, and if you don't like how it works, then stop using it. And if you ruined your game by not making a back-up first, shut up and go away, because no one here cares, and your ignorance is your own fault; not anyone's here or anyone at Mojang.
