That's right, the 1.2.5 snapshot is ready for testing! Players can take a look at the fixes and changes coming to the official 1.2.5 update (coming soon), but the snapshot has a particular focus on modders; with an early look at the future update, mods can be ready as soon as it officially goes live! Additionally, the extra time between the snapshot and update will be used to ensure that Bukkit is up-to-date and ready to go when 1.2.5 becomes official.

1.2.5 Full release:
The exact same version will be added to the launcher on Wednesday April 4, at 15:00 CEST (06:00 in California, 09:00 in Florida, 22:00 in Korea, and 23:00 in Sydney).
Shift clicking into furnaces is a nice feature, but I think that I would prefer shift clicking for brewing stands. That would add a lot more convenience.
As much as I didn't like having an update... I'm happy to see it being mainly bug fixes. I'm sorry, but I was just getting tired of unnecessary updates. I didn't see anything about the Mod API in there unfortunately... so hopefully that will be in the next update.
Oh, and THANK YOU for giving an EXACT time on the release. You have no idea how helpful that is to Modders, Server Owners, Bukkit and even the players. You should do this every time there's an update.

I completely agree this is a very positive precedent for future releases of Minecraft. I don't mind if Mojang changes their mind if they find a serious bug (or the community finds one with a preview snapshot) as that should also be a part of the preview process. Still, offering a preview with an expected day and time for the formal release is showing that Mojang is becoming very professional and that they care about their customers.
This is a very positive step in the right direction!
man i'm liking all the updates and everything but i love my mods!! all the updates are so close together the mods can't keep up. then we have to wait for a little while after the new releases are out to use our mods again then BAM!!! another release, and mods gotta start all over again. everyone with mods is just catching up from the 1.2.4 release
I guess it takes loads of updates to work on three different coloured plank stairs, I didn't think taking the same thing and repainting it took so long!

actually it does form what i heard the notch hated when he added the half slabs because of all the code in them and the stairs i would think would have a little bit more code in it then the half slabs but i could be wrong becuse iv never modified stairs only looked at the code for slabs

and they half to add the new textures and rewite the code for that block add it in block. then add a crafting recipe in craftingmanger. oh add also add the new id's
as the saying goes, you can't always get what you want, when you want!
I much rather prefer Mojang spend the time to fix Minecraft close as possible to a bug free game.
small additions like that can easily wait, unless your impatient then thats your problem, not theirs.
so would i i own a sever for my freinds and we all hate the ghost blocks
