Worst snapshot yet. I hate the idea of connecting singleplayer online. WHY?! it's a pointless feature, it makes things worst. Just add a Create server button.
The aim of it was to make it easier for the devs to update minecraft instead of making two updates(for ssp & smp). Next was to add the availability to easily create smaller servers(as in a server for your family or friends), dedicated smp servers won't be starting a ssp game and then add people to it. This is the reason why most dedicated smp servers will be using the normal craftbukkit smp software. In this case using an ssp server would be VERY pointless, but for a family/friends server the ssp thing is great.

Not everyone wants this garbage though, they want strictly single player. They don't want server garbage screwing up their single player stuff at all. Plenty of people I know, HATE this change. Good for the people who like it, but to the rest of us, it's garbage, and needs to be junked.
Getting rid of the PURE single player, is a disaster waiting to happen. I could care less about the opinions of the fanboys who eat up every single change as if it was gold, which some of the stuff isn't.. but this is by far the worst thing they could ever do to Minecraft. Simply put.
Don't like my views or opinions? Tough. Because that's what makes them opinions. not everyone is going to agree on them.
I junked this snapshot since it killed my ability to strictly play offline as I enjoy, all the server crap is just that.. it makes things worse. It doesn't belong in single player, period. /opinionated review of this crap snapshot.
Guys. No one is forcing you to play the snapshot! Don't complain about your worlds being messed up— you messed them up by playing the snapshot. No one made you do it.
Acutally thats a pretty good idea! No more people saying, "This messed up my world!" or something. It's a snapshot, why do you think they upload these things, so we can test them! I agree with the IQ test thing, even if you were just joking...
Wasn't really joking on it at all. I wish i was, it shouldn't be a required thing, but apparently people will just blindly download a snapshot thinking it is another patch i guess, use it and then complain loudly when it breaks things, even though warning signs were put up everywhere to say that snapshots may cause harm to your worlds.
Online is required, because I try to play offline, and it WILL NOT let me. So tell me more about how I don't know what I'm talking about?
No it isn't, the server portion of single player is a lean mean cut down version of the regular server version, you have to log into the launcher, that's not optional, and if it says you can't then you just click on 'play offline' and then play your single player world.
The 'server' part of single player is entirely on your computer, the 'logging in' message merely means it is connecting you to the single player version.
try running the jar file of the launcher instead of the exe version, you will see the entire process, you will see how it joins you to your single player server instance and doesn't go outside of localhost except for the initial launcher log in process.
I may not know you but that doesn't mean i can't prove you wrong. < may not be processed yet.
Awesome video, hopefully now the naysayers will give up, i've come to the conclusion that they just complain for the sake of complaining. It was the same when Notch was doing minecraft stuff, it was like, omg, a new update / snapshot, lets see what we can complain about today.
i get some leg and it runs harder i want the old way please i cant even play minecraft with out lagging on my laptop or atleast make a way to turn the server off so i have no lag mostly bow is laggy
It is a snapshot, it is whatever they have been working on up to that point, whether it works or not, regardless of issues.
You are not obliged to actually use it, this is the first snapshot to have the server and client merged together, lets wait and see what future snapshots do.
Also, i highly doubt about the lag side of things.
On a fresh new world, the server portion uses bugger all CPU for me, and barely any RAM at all (about 256MB in total).
Granted it now has a lot of the SMP bugs itself, but that's a GOOD thing, because now Mojang will actually see how buggy SMP is and fix it instead of focusing all their time and effort on single player like they have been.
Is there any way at all to let family or friends on lan play with you yet? And I have a crappy internet but it works smooth when I play online with this? eeven when everyone is on and its too laggy to load a page.
huh, i never noticed that. i just assumed since skeletons attacked each other that a skeleton and zombie would do the same. thanks for clearing that up

It is that way in 1.2.5 too, at least in the SMP portion of 1.2.5, and i suspect only under certain difficulties?
Sure you can! Go to your launcher and force update the game! (No one forced you to use the snapshot)
The snapshot isn't final so there are still bugs (In fact, those should be expected in a snapshot..)
I went full dumb there sorry.
