Sure, and if I wanted to hear Final Fantasy 8's soundtrack I could just play the game.
If I wanted to hear "The Social Network"'s soundtrack I could just watch the movie.
I mean, playing through a whole game, or watching a feature length film to listen to the music? Hot damn.
i bought it a long time ago, and it has a lot more music than in the minecraft folder. well worth the buy if you ask me. beautiful music. 24 songs for 3 dollars? awesome.
@Touko1 You can use any media player with .OGG file support - see http://vorbis.com/ The files are 96 kbps, Stereo (keep in mind OGG has higher quality sound at a lower bitrate than what MP3 requires).
I do agree with Jnitetime, though. Just buy the music, support C418, AND get more songs.

Awesome signature coming soon. I hope. For now, Ubuntu Linux and Free Open Source Software rocks!
The recommendations are excellent as well after you purchase. Undead on Arrival is an excellent album that reminds me of Mega Man. Trying to find the game that goes with it...
i dont give a **** about the music i want you to fix the god damn lag issue... i wasted 15 dollars on this game just to have you put no time or effort into helping us who have this issue
Yeah, supporting musicians in any way is for stupid noobs. Look, Notch and co. does not = C418. C418 is just a guy, asking 3 or 4 bucks for an album with additional tracks compared to what you'll find in your Minecraft folder. But I dunno man, maybe that's just a corporate lie perpetrated by the man.
I really like the soundtracks im thinking about buying the album. By the way I don't think they're " Funeral dirges " , just some cheery tunes to help you play Minecraft!

Just to let you know, C418 (the creator of this album and the guy that does all of the music and sounds for Minecraft) is not one of the programmers. He has no control over the game itself, and cannot help you with issues like this.
I don't know which is worse...Notch & co. trying to sell us music we already bought in our purchase of Minecraft.... or that there are people actually stupid enough to pay for it.
Either way its an indication of the dark slippery corporate money grabbing slope Minecraft seems to be in recently :sad.gif:
Umm, there are soundtracks for all sorts of things these days man...pretty much every movie that comes out has an official soundtrack. Most big-budget games release their soundtracks, if not on physical media, then at least on their website somewhere. Some people want to have the music from a film or game in a format that allows them to listen to it whenever and wherever they want. I for one find the Minecraft soundtrack to be great falling-to-sleep music.
Just because you personally have no desire to have the Official Minecraft OST does not make people who DO want it 'stupid', and the existence of this soundtrack does not make Mojang 'money grabbing'. As far as I know, Mojang doesn't even get any money from album sales. It all goes to C418.
As one final note, there are songs on the Minecraft soundtrack that are not yet in the game, so purchasing the OST gets you more music than you would hear by playing Minecraft. I respectfully request that you do a bit more fact checking before making posts like this. Thanks!

First of all, Minecraft is cheap for an amazing video game. $20 compared to $60?
Second, nobody is pushing anything on you. This is the Minecraft Forums, which is not at all run by Notch, Mojang, or C418. The person who posted this is featuring C418 and supporting him.
Third, I've never seen any speck of reason to see why Minecraft is becoming a corporate scheme. Even if Mojang was pushing this album on you, its only 3 damn dollars.
C418 is a really cool guy from what he tweets about. He's really modest, and is a great artist. Cmon, a game that's sold millions of copies, and he sells the soundtrack for $3. Half of his other albums are free, and the other half costs $1 a piece. Give the guy a break. He works really hard on the minecraft sounds. Right now he's looking for new sounds to add, he just asked for tips over twitter. Does that sound like a corporate money grabbing scheme to you?

So I suppose these albums should never have been made either?
To be honest companies and gaming companies make these items available for purchase so that you can obtain all these various types of memorabilia. Just look at how many people are starting to buy the Angry Birds plushies and that's all from what used to be an indie developer.
The music isn't even owned by Mojang... It isn't even made by Mojang. Its made by C418, a musician that works independently to the company and has a contract to make all the music and sound effects for the game. He owns the music and is trying to make a bit more income by selling it as an additional album. In other words you DON'T have to buy it if you don't want!
Your final point that Notch is trying to siphon his customers off for every penny is also a ridiculous claim. I for one can distinctively see a big logo on the top of the Minecraft page saying that it's 25% off...
You know...
This one:
25% off an already cheap game. Leading games like Call of Duty, Battlefield, Portal 2 and Starcraft sell for 5x that amount where I live. Minecraft seems like a pretty dirt cheap game to me.

As for the person saying they don't care about the music. That's easily solved...
I created an account here just to say how much I love the music in the game. There's something about it that makes minecraft dreamlike, gives it depth and beauty.
It is vaguely sad, but in a relaxed, wandering, creative way; it seems to express what the character might experience.
You can't get too sad anyway, with ducks making chicken sounds at you.

you can just convert the files with media.io or any sound converter
Lol, they're not even MIDIs. I bought it a while ago. Worth every penny.
Then the Official soundtrack came out.
(Consistently includes many mods!)
