God I could have used Minecraft in my Computer Architecture classes... It would have been a fun way to learn Gates. Instead I had a little Indian guy who just read his Powerpoint notes to us, and refused to answer questions with any answer other than "It's in the book"
At my school, kids get issued MacBooks. Guess what, ALL my teachers HATE Minecraft. People at my school still download it and play it against the rules though.
i wanna learn my geography on this =D
-here studen is swamp, desert, forest, netherland, plain and ravines
-sir, why isn,t there any snow?
-because of climaic heat up
-oh.
Ok, so first its normal people,
Now schools, whats next?

95% of teens would scream if Justin Beiber was about to jump of the top of the Empire State Building. If you are in the 5% that would grab a seat and some popcorn and yell JUMP! JUMP! JUMP! post this into your sig.
This is great... an awesome way to learn whatever the teachers can build, a way to learn basic online etiquette, and all that jazz. I am really happy that someone finally did this!
I can easily see using redstone to teach logic gates, and I've had someone point out to me the parallels between human development and a player's development in the game.
For those of you don't see the parallels, think of what you do in the game: first you start out with wooden tools and hunting for your food (prehistoric hunter gatherers). Then you graduate to stone tools and begin plainting farms taming animals (Stone Age/Agricultural revolution). Then you progress to iron tools (Classical/Iron Age). Finally you start developing into redstone technology to automate some things for you. (Rennaisance/Industrial Age)
If minecraft would be the way of teaching kids creativity, then it is a great idea and i support it!
Most of the teachers wont support it because they hate any games and they dont want to change their teaching style (so they can teach the same for 50 years..) and thats why their argument is totally invalid
I predict future now:
Year 2013 - Notch becomes the unitor of the world, all countries unites into one global country, kids have much more creativity because of the better teaching methods. All wars and religions are gone (or at least kept silently :3).
While Minecraft is a fun game, it's just that... a fun game.
No wonder the United States is among the lowest rated of educational systems in the world. Peeking at their screenshots the teachers will be teaching kids how to pick up a axe... wait that's not right... it's "pick up AN axe". An educational platform with grammar errors seriously? Teach them proper English not how to pick up axes and chop freaking trees in a video game...
This is an impractical use of a video game.
Fifteen years ago I played Oregon Trail II in school... know what I learned from it? I'm a great shot with the mouse when it came to the hunting scenes... yea that was about it.
@Robertx32
No religions? How is that good? Religion is very important in today's society, and will continue to be important. Also, without wars, there can be no peace. If all war was to cease, it wouldn't actually be peace for the fact that there is nothing to compare.
