I see some hater comments in here so id like to try to clarify what I can.
First and foremost. These events cost an ENORMOUS amount of money to put on at all much less to get vendors and such there for your own buying pleasure not Notches.
Second, at these events more often than not free things or exclusives are presented/given/announced. The fact of the matter is that 100 dollars is a good amount of money for young people like myself and so coming up with travel fees plus $100 is a hefty price-tag. Still. A fair one.
Dont be pissy at notch for charging a fair price. Aspirations a *****. So is coding java.
My personal opinion. I would do some not legally acceptable things to get into Minecon, but rent comes first.
It doesn't matter how you justify it, you're paying $100 to go to a convention about one indie game. And what would they be giving that's so worth it? Those retarded cardboard creeper heads that really have no value at all? They could have had the convention anywhere else and saved the 100 dollar ticket price. i like Minecraft just as much as the next player but **** those tickets. You said it yourself 100 dollars is a hefty price. But hey, charge anything and people will still pay for it. And no one is being pissy. its called having an opinion.

Then maybe Notch shouldn't have thrown a convention for an indie game at an expensive revenue?
"exclusives". Oh boy, a ****ing cardboard recreation of minecraft stuff. Oh boy, a sneak preview of whatever minor features they still plan on adding.
Not to mention travel costs, hotel costs... I don't see myself paying Up to $1000 USD for a indie game convention about 1 game.
Location: There are several reasons for selecting Vegas. A) It's a tourist hotspot, so when you book to go to Minecon, you're probably going to spend some time in the town, I.E. Do the Hangover. (What the heck, it could be fun!) It's a known place, other than Ggauogsj in a limited community. C) Go big or go home, Mojang want to become Icons. They don't want to sit behind a desk for the rest of their lives with one hit to their name.
Gifts: It's probably more than cardboard recreations. My guess is the "Free" stuff they are handing out is most likely shirts and clothing, with possible alpha version codes of their upcoming projects. There might even be free food.
I'm a huge fan of Minecraft, and I like big company games. If it weren't for certain problems, I'd go. (Namely lack of cash, and I'm busy with personal projects: My novels.)
(P.s. Blizzcon is more expensive, somewhere near 500$.)

HAHA... your novels. If I rolled my eyes any harder I would have fallen out of my chair.

i got a texture pack now, its here it changes how armor and tools look and has a few slight changes to a few blocks in terrain like making the redstone torch look more like a redstone torch then a lollipop.
Why do I have to be a minor? C'mon! It just sucks to know you can't go to "the thing that everyone will be talking about"... plus I think the Yogscast are going. Those two may be the most intelligent people I know.
and thats assuming that the 3 games are $30 as thats a normal price for games that only just got on the market, older games are usually between 5 and 15 just think of all the games one could buy instead of going, its crazy!
in fact setting the prices for the tickets so damn high is like telling people they cant go, i'm sure you would net a larger crowd with the prices at 20 or 30, but as you have already set the prices its too late, you'd **** off the people who already payed if you set em so low.

Going! Wish I wasn't a minor (miner?) so I could go to the real parties, looks like I'm stuck hanging out with the 7-year-olds and their grandparents. Still worth every penny!

Maybe if it was e3, or blizzcon...
.
I wish people would stop and think for a second.

If we go to minecon with parents, do thay have to pay or not to look after us.
