Screw the contests! Let's see another digital diamonds already!!!

Let's not be raging about this. I understand that Jolicraft pack was added into the contest afterward, but we don't need to yell about it constantly. Raging will get us nowhere, so let's all focus on the task at hand. The time limit of a few days is, however, not enough time to make a mod. It would take forever for me since i'm not a mod creator, but even I know that it would take more than a few days to create a good mod like they're asking for. What if there are long-term mod-creating contests, but there are weekly texturepack-based, redstone mechanism-based, or epic build-based contests. I think this is a good idea, and I hope you agree with my views on this subject.

I guess I'll throw in my two cents:

I love this idea. It's a great way to get the community participating, and a good way to give budding modders (/artists/whatevers) a chance at publicity. And I agree with everyone's sentiment that only new content should be allowed, though I'd still like to see well-known modders participate, just to see how they work under pressure.

In regards to the time frame: 3-5 days is totally reasonable. Look at Ludum Dare: people make entire GAMES in less time than we're being given to make a MOD, and the games are GOOD. I know people have a life and everything, but still. Just a suggestion: you don't have to make a mod as extensive and amazing as Build/Steam/IndustrialCraft. It's not going to happen. Instead, add a steampunk-y aspect to Minecraft. Make a steam-powered device or something. If need be, the moderators can compile all the top mods INTO a Steampunk mod, and the creators can improve their mods at a later date, when they're not pressed for time.

Lol I'm trying to learn how to mod but there aren't many tutorials out there, and none of them really show how things work like "Public" and so on. I'd like to find a mentor to teach me how to code but here in the rural part of California, that seems impossible.

Also, I'm much happier now that Sacheverell posted the poll. I can see by the votes that the contests will be much better. Why not just make bi-weekly contests that way each contestant has a week to create and post their own submissions. It'd be much better and it will allow more time for more Digital Diamonds to be posted.
