Guys... settle down... it's still going to be updated after the final release, whether it be through add-ons or just more updates. The point here is that they are halting development until the full release, so as to ensure that it's a clean release. Games are rarely released with more than a handful of minor bugs nowadays.
Anyways, my favorite additions have been the Halloween update (giving us the Nether, Jack-o-Lanterns and some other features), wolves, and player-versus-player support in survival multiplayer. New players take that feature for granted, having not played SMP before PvP!
I'd like to thank the entire Mojang team for their diligent and successful endeavors in community interaction, and for the wonderful and innovative game we have today. Congratulations on the legal victory with Bathesda, and keep up all the great work! Thanks again!
My favorite addition...All of it. But there's still a lot more to add. I would like to see more farming, as in growing fruits and vegetables, more food, and more ores. And much more stuff.
Some of my favorite additions would have to be the entire 1.8 update, and beds. On the other hand, the entire 1.9 update, minus enchanting tables, has been my least favorite addition. Potions and dragons? That's taking it a little too far, Mojang :\
I enjoyed all of it, and I will buy every expansion that is released the second it comes out! (Yup, beta buyer, wish I'd seen alpha. Thank goodness for MCNostalgia!)
THANK YOU NOTCH!
Wait, Minecraft, bug-free? What is this? This is crazy! Not to mention impossible! Plus, if Notch stops adding new stuff, that would be crazy! Although, Notch has done a very good job so far, but still. You know what I mean.
for anybody confuse updates will be back soon after the code freeze is done its not like there done making minecraft infact they very may well in the future release large modpacks made by them as dlc expansions
So waaaaaiiit....Does this mean Beta 1.9 will never be officially released? No dragons until Minecon?! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
But I really do love Minecraft. I've been playing for almost a year (I bought the game on Halloween night last year, just after the release of Alpha 1.2, the big update that added biomes and the Nether), and it just gets better with every update. These last few updates have been particularly amazing--I love the new biomes, new mobs, strongholds, abandoned mineshafts, melon and pumpkin farming, animal breeding, sprinting, enchanting, potions, all of it. (The randomness of the enchantment system irritates me, though. I've tried to get a diamond sword with the Looting enchantment on it, like, 10 times...)
Keep it up, Notch and company. You're doin' great!
Thanks for clearing that up!
But one thing, what the post says "a tight set of restrictions placed on what can be added to game code", does that mean people can make mods with only certain things...?
i dont think they'll realease minecraft just yet..... theres to much missing and to many bugs preventing them from being added....
actually the non-beta Minecraft is going to be released at Minecon that's been said quite a few times and it is for sure, that's the reason for the feature-freeze
i was always hoping for flying stuff, or vehicles... that game dose still dose have so much more potential.. i will miss Minecraft with its updates... good work on the game notch

-My favorite add on was the hunger bar. I hope to see something with the XP orbs. Love MC.
I'm confused.
