Perhaps instead of being weak to water, they should WALK ON IT? idk i just pulled that out of my ass.
They also need to be a lot stronger.
I also suggest that there be a radius around them in which they automatically become aggravated. it's sort of... not creepy to simply be able to brush up against them and have them perfectly fine with it.
i kind of like the idea that I could be walking along at night, looking at the ground or in some direction and run smack into an enderman's legs and have them just continue inscrutably shuffling the yard.
as passive entities, they move only the nerfed block IDs. As activated hostiles, they will claw through just about anything to get to you. They stay during the day, can swim almost as well as you, and can run a lot faster. Though they can't climb, they can reach up over their heads and get you through a second story window. In order to escape them, you have to be at least 2 solid blocks + 8 air blocks away from them. So if you run away into a building to hide, you have to get away from the walls and windows, and stand as far in the middle as you can. They may try to come around the other side, or if the roof is one block thick, pull it down and get inside that way.
instead of just staring at their eyes to activate them, if any part of your crosshair covers any part of their hitbox, you're "it". Effective from a distance of 100.
I would like to see the occasional Endermen that is easy as they are now - make them like a rare spawn chance. I would also like to see challenging Endermen which require skill and planning to defeat, as well. And all on the same map! :biggrin.gif:
On the block placement and removal ability: I would like to see this continue but I'd also like to see a counter to it that stops Endermen from removing blocks, make it cost a reasonable amount of resources per area of effect, and I think that would be fine and dandy. I'd also like the same counter able to block spawn of aggressive mobs - in other words, it can also stop the stray monster from spawning on tracks high above the ground.
I do, however, think that limitations on what blocks Endermen can place/remove should be in place, or that Notch fixes the bug that causes items to be deleted if the Endermen happens to pick up a container entity, like a chest.
What a bunch of snap ideas... Making them aggressive makes them like other mobs. Making them hit harder or harder to kill is still, just as boring. LAME.
@notch Why can't they take a random item from your inventory? That'd be a sweet way to toughen them up, like the moles on ToeJam & Earl lol
I would personally run like heck or kill on sight any Enderman if I knew he might take a random item never to be seen again from my inventory if I so much as look at him... It'd be different too. Perfect.
I think for a sound they should scream sort of like ghasts but more of high pitched scream, and also actually come after you and stare e.e he needs to fix that..
They're pretty week for the time being, But i do appreciate that this mob was added into the game. I wonder what update ender pearls will serve a purpose in? :?

Can I get a w00t?...
Anyone?
I personally think they should be aggressive, just make the range at which they turn hostile much shorter than zombies, skeletons or creepers. If you get too close, they go zombie like and try to whack you upside your head until you get out of range. This would make it so you can't just walk past them. However, keep it so they don't go psycho until you look at them.
Also, creepy laugh sound effect for Endermen. And when you look at them, instead of just an open mouth, they get a huge grin. Maybe a high pitched scream when you make that eye contact. Maybe a maniacal laugh as they chase you.
I like them like they are, but they need to be more challeging. I look at them on purpose then swim into a pond. My first enderman encounter was creepy as hell. I knew they were weak to water, so i swam. but when i got to the middle, he just stood on the coast, staring. I loved that fear i had when he outsmarted me, standing between me and my house. bad thing is wgen i got close to him, he charged into the water after me, killing himself.
My idea on what they should do, is when you look at them, if you look at them for more than 2 seconds, or one, your vision starts getting blurry and your hear some creepy sound. I imagine the enders having a scream, but a deep pitch. After while your vision is blurry, they start charging to you.
My other idea is kinda like my first. same start, stare at them for too long, but this time, your chacter is frozen, and you still hear the low pitched scream. you stay froze for a second, litterally 1 second, and during that second the ender teleports behind you and gets the first hit.
Those are my ideas, if you like please say so. But I do have to admit, I want real punishment for looking at an ender. even worse for staring at him.
@notch Oh, and when you do update the enders, please oh please don't say what the new this is that they do on the update page, just put "Enderman are now more difficult/threating" or something, I wanna be surprised.
For the love of blocks, remove their ability to move blocks around... SO ****ING IRRITATING. Creepers are bad enough for ruining my creations, now we have passive mobs dancing around messing up my crap on their own? Ugh.
Of course, they should be much more difficult to fight, and much, MUCH less common to spawn.
The current problem with Endermen I think is that they're too easy to kill.
All you have to do is get it onto a lower elevation and it can't hit you. (True of the zombies too - although I think skeletons can still shoot you as well.) Plus it's too easy to escape by jumping into water or pouring water on them.
They need to be more persistent and smart enough to avoid hazards (particularly water, but fire too). Giving them an aggro 'radius' would also make them harder to avoid (so you can't just walk past them, but it would have to be smaller than their 'on-sight aggro' radius), and allowing them to attack on a diagonal or smart enough to move up higher than the player makes them harder to kill. (And dodging, for those who have bows - so when you shoot, they'll either start their teleport-charge, or port 1-2 blocks to the left or right to avoid the arrow.)
And creepy sound effects would be nice.
Also, I agree that they shouldn't be able to move chests at least, because dang is that annoying.
(With that being said, it's creepy to find 'signs' of the Endermen having been around - trees missing bits out of their trunks, random pits in the ground, hey random wood block...)
There should be some blocks that endermen can't move simply because otherwise you'd be standing there guarding everything more than you would be actually creating and playing. It'd turn into a game of babysitting the hut with the bed in it and live off your personal internal farm.
When I go out to explore, all it takes is 1 of them to completely mess up what I've spent hours working on and could very well wipe out all of my stashed items. Even if there is some type of constructable fence that could keep them out that doesn't do anything to other mobs that'd be fine. (I kind of like the idea of having to use redstone and maybe say iron to create an electric fence or charged line on the ground that repells them...) Just something so that if you sink the time and effort into it, you can make a safe place that you don't have to worry about.
The endermen actually make me want to play the game less simply because it does nothing to enhance the gameplay but rather just adds a variable amount of maintenance to any building I construct, guard duties to any supplies I collect, and repair to any contraptions or systems I build. Constantly repairing everything does not translate into fun or challenging, just simply annoying as hell and artificially forcing more filler play.
As I said before, I believe in their current state that they detract more than they add to gameplay. If you **** one off, I think they should be hell bent on messing you up and demolishing anything in your path, and they should be able to do so very effectively. However, they should be rare enough that your house is only in real danger of endermen damage if you're stupid enough to draw one near, or if you do not deal with them when they are in the area.
ive had an idea, what about if endermen create a field of pitch black darkness around them for a certain area... and also maybe makes torches generate no light within a certain range as well

When they stop amusing me, I kill them with arrows.
I agree with Notch; Enderman should be more of a threat.

Maybe they could pick up blocks and throw them at the player?
I would also like to see them work in packs. Like, if you attack one, you never know how many might come running.
1. They hunt in packs. If you look at one, every single enderman in that "pack" turns and stares at you, the hunt only begins once you look away.
2. They randomly teleport behind you in the middle of a fight so that backstrafing isn't so perfectly effective.
