To everyone who is worried about not being able to build in 1.8 adventure mode...
You're supposed to explore in adventure mode. If you cannot build, how will you make a bed to reset your spawn point? Obviously Notch and Jeb don't expect you to survive the night in absolute pure darkness (Darkness because if you're not allowed to build/mine you'll never be able to get coal or wood for torches or glowstone from the nether or the obsidian to make said portal). It is purely unfathomable to expect someone to live in sheer darkness, while following the "exploring" requisite without any basic supplies.
Secondly, if you cannot build, what good are all these new and exciting items? What good is it to explore if you won't have a chest, a home, or a fort to save them? Surely if you cannot build, you cannot create chests to store them in.
Thirdly, if you cannot build, what happens when your sword breaks? What happens when you run out of arrows? Surely you'll be needing to mine gravel for flint, wood for a crafting table, sticks for swords, shovels, pickaxes, etc, and then stone for a furnace to smelt all the ores you find to a useable form. The only counter to this is if items lasted forever, which would be unrealistic for an "adventure" mode.
To argue against "Build in creative mode, survive in survival mode", blocks have no drops and are destroyed in one hit. You would not be able to collect the ores or the materials needed to create vital items in Minecraft, so this idea is not feasible. Also, this wouldn't work for multiplayer servers. Sure, it would work for small servers of friends, "Hey guys, I need to be in creative mode so I can finish my fort..." but could you imagine a server with 200 people? Complete havok.
In short, you are being rediculous if you are assuming you will not be able to SURVIVE/BUILD in adventure mode. Unless you have a valid counter-argument to the points I have listed above, I will consider them to be true.
*****TL;DR Version:
If you're not able to build in adventure mode, how the hell will you create the items you need to adventure (Torches, pickaxes, arrows, bows, etc) without being able to build/destroy? Stop being silly and assuming you won't be able to play survival in adventure mode.*****

Life is not measured in the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.
At first when i heard all the stuff they were considering on 1.8 when they first released it i thought it would be a really lame update, now its all looking pretty good! Im not a fan of the hunger bar though, i rarely get food on the game since i like to spend lots of time indoors or underground, and when i do go out its at day time.

This is getting seriously ****ing rediculous. Can't we legitimately petition a moderator of the board to change the wording of the OP? People are seriously getting tied up in the misconception that survival mode is gone.

I think having blocks destroyed in one hit for creative mode is a bad idea, because people with laggier games will consistantly destroy 1+ more blocks than they intended to
I hope that creative mode will be like alpha and be able to punch and detonate TNT. if not at least include redstone torches or levers or pressure plates or buttons
And was that zombie meat?

That wouldn't work it'd be like 1.6, such as, lots of bugs, confusion, anger, ect.
