There’s the old saying "I know just enough about the subject to be dangerous." We see a couple screen shots and a blurb and everyone draws their own conclusions. The best thing devs can do is to finish the game as they see fit and not balk at every criticism. I have already gotten my moneys worth and they should make the game as profitable as they think it can be.
Sandbox mode = like we currently play SSP or SMP (no permadeath or at least toggle on or off)
Adventure mode = leveling and permadeath Adventure SSP or SMP
Creative mode = like playing on website
He should make you choose mode when creating the map
Did they ever actually confirm that, or is that the public opinion based on a little bit of info?
Because from all that I've read, nothing has said that there won't be an adventure mode.
I could however be wrong, but that was just my prediction.
So every time you die, you have to delete and re-create a map. Better make it a toggle option or a new Difficulty same as hunger.
If you just build massive object or just chillin, hunger and perma death (Def Perma Death) will seriously get in the way, You finish build the statue of notch then a creeper comes behind you and kills you. Map Gone =(
Ugh i hope permadeath and hunger is Option !!! Otherwise il never update game again -.- .. well i can inv hack or download mods then i think.. if there will be included passively ingame.. but yeah I TRULY hope its an OPTIOn T_T
I think permadeath just means you lose all of the experience, not your entire world save...... unless its an option for increased difficulty. It wont be a staple of the core game if it means losing the entire save.
Wow i cant belive how many people dont read the comments!(at least a little maybe to page 5)
because ever since this topic was put up theres been a flamewar!
people get this clear THERE IS NO PERMADEATH ITS A PLAYERDEATH YOU DIE AND YOU LOSE ALL OF YOUR EXP AND YOUR STUFF SPLATERS ON THE GROUND!!!! its big underlined bold and capitilized
so idiots can see it...
I think with the run that he's had, Notch is smart enough not to ruin Minecraft. Pretty sure this is no exception.
A lot of panicky feedback before we actually see what its like. Jeez its like the Carbon Tax in Australia.

The moral of these stories? Play God, and there is a 100% chance you will be mauled to death by leopard men.

doesn't sound bad at all, i think most people that are opposed to this don't really understand what 'permadeath' really means.
anyway, can't wait for 1.8, getting a little bored with the gameplay, i only continue playing because of SMP.
After playing minecraft for a very long time, I'm kind of bored, and don't know what to do. But leveling up would actually make me wanna play seriously again.
It's nothing to worry about, honestly. If you read the article he mentioned that the EXP system would be almost entirely automatic. That doesn't sound very RPG-like to me.
From what I've read- the idea will be that you level up very quickly depending on what you do but lose all of your levels, EXP, and inventory when you die.
IIRC Notch confirmed that there will be about four difficulty levels in the final game: Creative, Normal, Realistic, and Hardcore. I really doubt that he's stray away from that idea because that would drive away casual players.
There's also this:
"Adding progression and permadeath could be a risky move for Minecraft’s vast playerbase. I asked Notch whether he’s concerned about ruining the purity of the game he’s created.
“It’s the biggest risk,” he acknowledges. “We have to make sure that it’s fun, and as streamlined as possible. I kind of figured out that a really good test of what works or not is when I go back to 1.7.3 – the previous version. If it feels like it’s lacking that feature, if it feels like it should be in there.""
I'm sure that he's putting plenty of thought into it. So far 1.8 looks very polished and feature rich, I'm looking forward to it.
Owned since Alpha 1.1.2_01
Playing since Infdev
More like you have a TERRIBLE brain to process the actual IDEA.
You don't get game changing abilities via leveling. i.e. Leveling is not a must. It's just a bonus.

That should be ok..
Adventure Update is not Adventure Mode.

So I'm actually pretty excited he's doing this.
