NOOOOOO!!!! One of the magics of minecraft is the ability to respawn an infinite amount of times. And losing your whole inventory? That's just stupid. This is turning from a creative sand box game into more like a WOW game. Next thing you know we'll have to pay for monthly subscriptions!
Adding progression and permadeath could be a risky move for Minecraft’s vast playerbase. I asked Notch whether he’s concerned about ruining the purity of the game he’s created.
“It’s the biggest risk,” he acknowledges. “We have to make sure that it’s fun, and as streamlined as possible. I kind of figured out that a really good test of what works or not is when I go back to 1.7.3 – the previous version. If it feels like it’s lacking that feature, if it feels like it should be in there.
“But it’s what I like about roguelikes, like Nethack – everything is dangerous.”[/i]
I'm looking forward to things like NPC villages but I absolutely prefer Minecraft to remain largely what it is now. As for "rougelikes" I freaking *H*A*T*E* those.
Notch, you're the best 99% of the time, but this time, you've let me down. I already play frigging WoW, I don't wanna play WoW in MINECRAFT!
Hunger? Okay, as long as it's just in realistic mode. Permadeath? ...Hardcore mode only, please.
I''m so upset with you right now, Notch. Wtf were you thinking with leveling? This is MINECRAFT. MINECRAFT. If I wanna grind for hours on end I'll go play World of Warcraft. This is a mistake Notch. A big one.
Wow this sounds REALLY cool permadeath needs to be renamed though... (i got to page 16 out of 19 last night today there 26 pages GREAT)
Hunger- just adding to the aspect of survival
Permadeath- just adding another risk too dying which is losing you levels
Leveling- well without it theres no permadeath LOL
taller maps- THANK YOU NOTCH THANK YOU!!!!!!!
Why are people so worried about perma-death? We already drop our items when we die, and he mentioned that you level very quickly. You just drop back to level one when you die and then you go level back up again. This adds more consequence for dying, but if the leveling is fast, you should be able to get back to your level without too much trouble.
Permanent death... does the game have to be that realistic? What good would come from it? I would like to hear that. I suggested something that would turn each death experience into a new and fresh way to play this game and also in which you still may not want to die. Sadly this feature would just make it harder to create even a mod out from my suggestion since it would need to take the permanent death feature away. An additional challenge along the road that does not need to be there so to speak.
I agree with the suggestion making it toggle-able. Until further information given, I don't see a way in which this feature would make people benefit in Adventure Mode unless a Save Game feature would be also implemented, but that would just counter the permanent death feature's purpose and make it more annoying when death happens, but a blessing when you know that the saved game still includes your items and equipment. At this moment you will start from the spot when you press ESC and quit or disconnect. With this feature and the way it saves the game would possible kill you if permanent death should be implemented the way it is just mentioned here. :smile.gif:
Think of a nice beach with flowers and trees near you. You press ESC and the game saves. You quit your game, but eventually come back. Now you want to continue, but the creeper behind you kills you and you lose your inventory. You want to start again, but you are in a position that kills you everytime you return to it. Your game is finished there and all the progress ends. You may be able to modify the saved game within Creative Mode, but everytime you die in a way you will certaintly die each time, it should be thought that you don't want to jump between Adventure Mode and Creative Mode everytime you die this way and with Save Game feature it would just add an additional feature to the already messy mixture. This is why I truly hope these features will be balanced or they will make more harm than give benefits to players. :smile.gif:
Not because of this feature only my suggestion and advice for Notch and the team would be to keep the game simple. Gather knowledge from other games and balance the benefits and penalties if you wish, but think very carefully whenever you intend to "expand" the game with features. People may not be ready to see the outcome of the game which restricts people in a way that when they stumble upon this game they see that they need this mod and that mod and of course a third mod too to modify the game into what suits with another bunch of other mods to make the rest of the game go fluently. These people no doubtly will say these kind of things when they encounter these challenges:
"Too hard.", "Too complicated.", "I don't want to search for things that I want to have in-game.", "I don't know how to modify things.", "I am just no mod person." and so on. It is easy to say I don't want this or that, but sometimes there is a point. Why make some features that affect the game in a form of a restriction than a possibility? Surely the addition of pistons was one of the best ones to add in-game, but the point in that was to make the game more diverse and have even more rich content. :happy.gif:
I am sure that Notch intends to make the game the best there is, but I believe that it is not the features that create the game the best it can be. It is the diversity of how you can have your own ways with the game. This is where a mod API ( mentioned before ) should conquer the stage. :biggrin.gif:
Hunger in the other hand is an interesting addition. I wonder what kind of a link it has with permanent death.
Buddy permadeath is not what its called if you had read the main topic u would have understood that it means u die oh no i lose my level and my stuff is scattered on the floor oh noes.. the leveling system i supposed to be FUN and FAST so you could get your level back as wuick as you could get your stuff back ...
