Why does sprinting not feel minecrafty? People keep using this as a complaint with certain additions, but no one ever stops to explain what minecrafty even means. The game is not yet complete, what is and what isn't "minecrafty" is completely open to interpretation, but notch's definition kind of wins.
I like the idea of running shoes, that wear out, over a stamina bar. Minecraft needs more sinks, so that you keep having to make stuff.
Running across soul sand with the shoes could let you go normal speed!
You wear the shoes, but you still have to press the button to run. The shoes don't wear out unless you are running. You should not be able to go too fast, a little slower than other fast transportation sounds about right. Resources that go into the shoes could be comparable, but maybe a bit cheaper than minecarts.
Stamina bar would be ok, but doesn't add as much to the game in my opinion.
I like the ideas of having shoes. They could only be made with a semi-rare item such as lapiz lazul. This seems the best. They would have durability and must be in the hot bar. Other then this there are no restrictions *such as directional limitations. Also They should allow you to jump 3 blocks instead of 2.
I don't like the running shoes idea. It sounds a bit too stupid. Why would you need special shoes to run? that would mean you can't wear armor boots when running..
How the hell is 1.8 making the game like Runescape? Notch is trying to make Minecraft encourage Adventure, and add new features to the game.
And how is a stamina bar going to make the game like CoD? CoD doesn't have a stamina bar!
The running shoes idea is pretty lame, I mean, special shoes for running? I can run in sandals, and bare-foot, why do I need special shoes? Stamina would make sense, but it would make the game more complicated. In my opinion, a simple 1.5x run speed whilst a certain key is pressed, with slower turning speed is balance enough, stamina and running shoes are not needed.
Or maybe there could be tripping. For example, there will be this stamina bar on the bottom when you start sprinting. When it goes into the "red zone", there is a 1/5 chance that you will trip and lose a little bit of health. The stamina bar will recharge slowly over time, so you can't just simply stop sprinting when you are near the end of the stamina bar and start fresh.
Actually I think the stamina bar idea is horrid, I mean this is minecraft not CoD.
