I cant see it being in Japan because that fact that they most likely wont be able to speak English which in Australia this is possible, but for both of these locations requires most people long distance travel and $$$. If it was in Canada, a lot more people around the US and Canada could have a shot at going. Which also means that its harder for people in Japan, Australia, UK, and for any other non North American country to ever go. I think that Mojang should alternate continents. Hopefully Mojang chooses wisely for this if this is an official vote. Also I think some good locations would be Sweden, Denmark, Netherlands, France, and Germany.
sorry to insult your comment, but I'd hardly think that it's "safe" in Detroit. Also, when I entered there in from Canada in my car, I saw many homeless, hitch-hikers, and abandoned/broken down buildings. Seriously, the dairy queen I saw there was worn down, and windows were boarded up.
Detroit is a very safe place. In 2011 for big city's it placed number one for murders and number 2 for crime. Also a city just to the north Flint, placed number one in crime. If that doesn't say safe i don't know what does. We have also had a recorded setting football(American Football not soccer) team the Detroit Lions so you could see them play on thanksgiving if you are in town. Detroit is home to the biggest car company's in the world and was where the car was practically born as Henry Ford used the assembly line to mass produce it cheaply for everyone. We my have a unemployment rate high then most city's but not the highest. If Minecon came there it could create jobs for those people. There is also Cobo Center where the North American Auto show is held every year and not to mention you can always see on of the largest thanksgiving day parades in the U.S. The city is also not that large population wise for a big city so not a lot of traffic. Detroit has had its rough times during the Detroit riots but L.A. has also had major riots and its happened more recently. There are pros and cons to hosting it here but overall the pros are great and the cons are small so Detroit should get the next Minecon. The state of Michigan is also a great state name one other place that touch 4 out of the 5 great lakes(largest source of fresh water other than pole ice caps) and name one other place where you can pull out your hand and show someone where you live. Being connected to the great lakes we have access to ship to ship in parts and or people can takes boats to get here. Give Detroit a chance at Minecon. Give us a chance.
ONCE AGAIN... everyone saying it should be in the US or Europe well... Dinnerbone said that Minecon 2013 would not be there. It is either:
Canada
Australia
or... Japan.
Now please stop making those useless comments cause it is not going to be in the US nor Europe. Again... (Not saying that the US and Europe are useless but just wanted to clean up this thread a bit.
Would still love to know where you got this info, man. I've looked it up and can't find anything about it. Unfortunately, last time I asked you you seemed to not come back to the topic. Worth another try though.
So where exactly did you get the information that Minecon 13 won't happen in US or Europe? You seem to be the only person who knows it
Right here m'ate...
I'd assume that they'd think the same for not wanting it in Europe since they had it this year, making The options Canada, Japan, and Australia most logical. Apparently Canada is extremely popular since we're beside the US.

Oh sorry. Last time I didn't see the comment.
Anyways, the proof is in the post above me.
Minecon should be at my crib for several reasons.
1 - So I can attend.
2 - I love to party.
3 - Just kidding I voted for Toyko, just because of the Fast & Furious movie "Toyko Drift"
I think that it should be in June because the flowers are blooming and the temperature is nice plus it is summer vacation so people can go to MineCon. In December there would just be too much snow on the ground(if it was in Canada) and it would not be any fun. People's flights would probably get delayed if MineCon was hosted during a winter month.
About the date, is there any universal holiday period? Or at least one used by most western countries?
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
No, there has never, ever been a sandbox game with a story or ending... except Grand Theft Auto... and Saints Row... and Red Dead Redemption... and Crack Down... and Assassins Creed...
I would actually say none of these locations. I would say my town of Raleigh NC. A reasonably sized city of around 400'000. We are on a very central location along the eastern seaboard. About halfway from New England to Florida so people up and down the east coast could come. We have a huge new convention center in downtown. We actually hosted the NHL Allstar game in 2011 and we easily fit everything in the convention center. If we can handle the NHL Allstar game we can handle Minecon. Go look up pictures of the convention center, it is really big. It would be great to host Minecon here.
Pros and Cons of having MineCon in Canada:
Pros:
Canada's exchange rate is much better than USA.
1 CAN = 1.01189 USD
Usually planes may go to Canada after their polar route trip.(Polar route means planes will fly over the north pole and south pole to go to their destination(Most likely going to USA or CANADA) as its shorter)
Cons:
Since Canada and USA are part of the america continent, it is not fair to have it in the same continent.
for those living in Asia(most from South East Asia and North East Asia) and Australia will need to take a 23-25 hour ride in the plane in order to go to Canada.
Pros and Cons of having MineCon in Japan:
Pros:
Japan is like a hub for most airlines as they will do their polar route or the pacific route from there as its distance from North america via pacific route or polar route is much shorter.
(Polar route or pacific route
Cons:
Communication will be hard as Japan's only official language is Japanese.
Pros and Cons of having MineCon in Australia:
Pros:Australia is famous for its Kangaroo route(From UK to Australia (via Bangkok until the release of the A380, it was changed to Singapore. For Emirates and Qantas, they will be operating it via Dubai from march 2013 onwards) )
Cons:but its a 24 hour ride on the plane.
Pros:
Australia has people who rarely uses bad word(Because of Hi-5! show) and they will respect you
Australians have nice accents :D.
Cons:
Can't really think of any except the 24 hour plane ride.
But, what if MineCon was in Singapore?(where I live)
Pros:
For those living near United kingdom, British Airways(and some other airlines) have lots of planes that routes to Singapore because of the Kangaroo route. Singapore was used as a stopover as the airline industry changed to the A380 and Bangkok had no A380 support built into the airport yet.
For those living in Australia, there are a lot of routes to Singapore(as stated above, the Kangaroo route..)
Beside the only civil airport(Changi airport), there's an Expo(call Singapore Expo) which is just a train station away from the airport.
There is a hotel at the airport's location.
Cons:
Its a 24 hour journey to Singapore for those living in North America.
Australians miss out on a lot of things. You say it'd be expensive to fly to Australia, well, think about it the other way around.
*facepalm* I've already explained this 20 times... Australia is more expensive to fly to for most of the world, but America is only more expensive to fly to for Australians, making America more ideal.
canada. no qestion about it. its close to america and it wouldnt be to hard for you europeans out there to come. unless you live down under, almost nobody would be able to go to minecon in astralia.
What do you mean it's "Close" to America? It's IN America
only because canada is closest to me and i might be able to come (omfg i hope so) and in a month with no freakin school (lol im not gonna blow off school for a convention somewhere far away)

Yeah, that's what this topic has changed to now, but I still need to create a poll and criteria. I'm doing that now.
1 - So I can attend.
2 - I love to party.
3 - Just kidding I voted for Toyko, just because of the Fast & Furious movie "Toyko Drift"
EDIT: Have they held Minecon in NYC yet?
Ps: Quote me when replying to one of my threads/posts so I get a notification.

However, Canada is close, and it's really not expensive. Also, did we ever have a winter themed Minecon?
