Because Europe itself is almost just as big as Canada or the US. Ok I will add those choice
Or because you could fit both US and Canada in Russia alone?
Compare the size and consider it yourself: here
Or just compare these numbers:
Russia: 17,075,400 km2 USA: 9,826,675 km2 Canada: 84,670 km2 Now let us sum up theese numbers: 17 075 400(Russia)-9826675(USA)=7 248 725 km2
And we may not forget little Canada: 7 248 725(Russia-after-comparing-to-USA)-84 670(Canada)=7 164 055 km2
So the conclusion: Russia is one country, in Europe and it is larger than both Canada and USA.... Do never call Europe smaller than Canada or USA again... yes?

I <3 Mechanical Keyboard (Tesoro Durandal G1NL) Just have to love it when someone changes the specs when comparing with and without optifine..
NEW YORK CITY. PLEASE. ^ ^ Or Washington D.C. Or Pittsburgh. Or Philly. Or Baltimore. Somewhere in that area.If only I had had enough money to go to Minecon 2011. Now it's just gonna get farther and farther away from me. It's fairer for everyone else that way, but even so. Oh well. Someday. Maybe.

The majority of Russia is in Asia... Only about 1/4 of Russia is in the European continent. The Ural Mountains define which part of Russia is in Europe and which part is in Asia. Europe goes from Iceland to the Ural Mountains.
Here's where the Ural Mountains are:
And here's whole Europe on the world map:
You can't just pull out numbers from Wikipedia. You didn't even get the area of Canada right...
US: 9,826,675 km²
Canada: 9,984,670 km²
Russia: 17,075,400 km²
Europe: 10,180,000 km²
You're way off... US and Canada combined is about 2.8 million km² bigger than Russia, and Europe is only almost about as big as Canada.
I love how everyone thinks it should be in America or Canada when the first minecon was in Las Vegas, one of the most influential places in America. Seriously, why do Americans want everything in their country? They've had it once, so you'd think they wouldn't be begging for it on topics like this. We all know that Mojang won't choose a place in or anywhere near America. Asia/Australia/Oceania should be on the poll too.
Yes, I know that there are many people in America who have been saying that they want to go to minecon for once. Look, I'm sorry if you never get to go to minecon, but you have to think about other people. Americans have had the chance to go, it was in Las Vegas. Didn't start playing before that? Tough luck. Countries such as Asia and Australia have never even been within 8000 kilometers of minecon (Rough estimate, go easy on me!). South America would be an alright place, but there isn't much of a gaming population. Asia probably has a rather big one, Australia has a bit of a small one since the large amount of sport freaks and CoD fanboys (Not proper gamers, just immature children that hate minecraft).
I know some people agree with me, and I'd like to see an actual mature response to this post, instead of some American kid whining about not ever going to minecon. I have this message to them:
1. Take one for the team. A load of other countries have, it's your turn.
2. If you're complaining about lack of money/interest that your parents have, minecon was in America last year, you could've freaking driven to it.
To all of you people who think Notch is still working on the game, he stopped working on Minecraft in late 2011. Get your facts straight and stop spamming his twitter about Minecraft updates.

one of the most influential places in America, LOL WUT? you really want to call sin city "influential"
Disagreed with your post as soon as i saw that, If you look at the demographics most minecraft players are going to be in America so it would only make sense to bring Minecon to the place with the most minecraft players! Plus if i got my way, Austin is so close to mexico they could easily drive up!

Look, read the rest of my post. Try and beat that :3
And where the fudge is Austin?
Plus, America has got it once. No more. Minecon 2013 might be the last, and you think it should take another trip to America?

Nah, you don't realize that it's not about who's never had a minecon. it's about where can minecon reach the most players! and the fact that you don't know where Austin is does not help your case. If anyone is mad here it's you because your goal of getting minecon to a continent other than NA or EU is as far fetched as the browns winning the super bowl

Who the heck are the 'browns' and the 'superbowl'? There is a world outside of America you know. There are thousands of Australian/Asian children who have been waiting for minecon, and you want it to be in America again?I wasn't mad in the first place.
I don't wanna live on this planet anymore.
