I've been doing some large land moving lately, and I've run into a speedbumb in sure many of you have experianced.
like any other area that I don't want mobs spawning in, I place down a number of torches to keep the area lit. But as I cut out the top layer of dirt and stone, I end up leaving the block under the torch so that I don't have to replace it just yet.
No no mater how I go about it though, that torch needs to come down and be replaced, and this takes a lot of time if your doing it for a large area.
enter the solution: the sticky torch. By adding a slime ball to the bottom of a torch, we now have a special torch that, when the block it is attached to breaks, falls to the floor, like a block I sand or gravel, and plants itself.
this would have some pretty cool uses, but I feel one concern you may bring up is the "moving light source" issue. Fear not, the light would be off until it plants.

1. There are many things that are more expensive in the game, it all depends on your wanting it
2. If you stuck it to the wall, then removed the wall it would drop to the ground and stick there.
3. I think pushing a piston with it would probably knock it off the wall. I say this because the "sticky" function works more to keep the torch upright and active after dropping. Pictures are nailed to the wall effectivly but they still drop when pushing them.
4. If the torch fell into the water it would place like normal. Should there be another source block puttin water on it then it will become an item just like normal torches when placed.

One slime to four torches would be fine with me. I honestly thought people were saying it was over powered.
some times I'm not great at explaining things, so bear with me here. I'm going to try a different approach.
lets say you have a block of sand. When vomited (or thrown) the sand is just an item. But when placed, the sand is a block and will fall until it is on the ground.
the sticky torch would work the same way, you place it, and it functions as a light source that acts like a block of sand. When you drop it, it is vomited up like any other item and can be walked over to be picked up.
But I think it should stick when a piston pushes it. And as for throwing it, why not have it like an Eye of Ender? Where you press left trigger to throw it, and if you want I drop it press B. This would be great for throwing a light source down a dark ravine to see how deep it goes, or throwing a torch up to the ceiling in a large cavern.

what say you all?
So is this idea bad or good? Some feedback would allow this to be improved or possibly implemented.
you can't tell me I'm the only one whos done something like this where a torch function like this would be of use.
