The last update took eight months and it was just a texture pack essentially (changed glass + doors). At Minecon, it looks like 4J only announced another skin pack. It kind of seems like they're giving up on updating consoles; just providing bug fixes and skin packs.
No, you shouldn't expect anything more than what you have. We'll get more updates but one studio putting out 5 different platforms worth of updates is going to require patience.

If I was 4j, I probably would have stopped making updates with all the ungrateful posts about things not being good enough, or saying that 4j owes them more.
the fact is we all purchased a full compleet game, and they have added to that game at no cost to us several times. They could have left te game as packaged and that would have been all they were legally required.
they are only making so much money off of us at this point. This is not something that many other game companies would do, so we should give them some respect and be a little patient with them.
Im not directing this at you (or saying your a problem), I'm just putting this out there for all those other people who have done nothing but complain after each update.

I agree with Last_Crayon, my Forza game requires you to pay for each car pack and you only get like 5-10 cars for sometimes $20. The fact that they take the time to give us what they give us for free is pretty awesome actually.
Remember though, regular updates keep the game exciting and people talk about it. Stop talking and no more sales since interest dies down.
The pc version is still putting out updates so they feel there is a benefit. Why the console version seems to be slowing down, who knows? I like to think there is more in the near future and that last update was just part 1 since it was ready to go.
If I got all the biomes and new bricks I'd gladly plop down $5-10 for it. Stained glass, as stupid as it sounds, is amazing. And the new doors? For such a silly small update, it made me and the kids very happy.
I blew my son's mind when I changed the beacon color with stained glass ;-)
Yeah the beacon thing was cool to find out. I had a few colors, so I lopped a block down and it changed, went up a few more blocks and changed it again. its really quiet neat. try it in creative
Having variety is really quite nice. I wish it hadn't taken 8 months or whatever it was. I'd really like 2x2 spruce to work with bonemeal (or for a spruce compatible tree machine with leaf crusher). I finally have some variety in resources and I'm growing iron stores and such.
I want all the aesthetic blocks to come ASAP. I play in survival only though.

yeah, don242, that's a good point too. It does keep it alive.

I didn't know of that worked or not (I don't have any beacons)
The doors, while such a small thing, are great. I can now look out my door to see if there's something evil out there waiting for me.
